Froyo 2.2 gives you to possibility to move an installed app from internal card to external card, however, the button isn't active.

I went to manage applications and neither compass nor Adv Task Killer can be moved. Why ?

had the same problem, it seems not all apps supports this feature, changed my mind on installing apps to ext sd tho, it leads to another problem: homescreen shortcuts to apps installed in external sd disappears if you reboot the SGS, lol

now I'm using ext sd for personal files instead (docs/music blah blah)

I may have misunderstood.
OP get the app from Market to move apps to SD.

They don't disappear just take a few seconds to load.

Peace.

i've been having te disappearing apps icons off home screen after switchung phone off / on ever since i updated to Froyo.  And mine don't come back no matter how long i wait.  I have to replace every one of the disappeared shortcuts.
: -(
It was suggested on Whirlpool forums that i chould have done a factory reset after the 2.2 update - some thing i'm going to try when i get confident about backing up everything first. Mind you, looking to sort it led me here, so a silver lining
*laughing*

Thanks gojieb, it didn't occur to me that it could be the apps i moved to SD card.  I just assumed a random event

Hmm, is the problem still prevalent if you make icons after moving the items to desktop?

Can you try and make new Icons and switch off the device and turn it back on to see if the icons return like they should?

Please get back to me with the results.

Peace.

sorry IronSingh, not sure i understand

are you suggesting i move some of the apps back from SD card to the phone then switch the phone off and see if the shortcut icons of those apps i moved back t the phone are still there but the ones on te SD card have disappeared?

i'll give it a try and get back to you
: -)

a PS i use App 2 SD Pro to send apps to the SD card, but i've never stopped to think - which SD card?  The internal Sd card or the external one i supplied?  The one i have to mount / unmount ot remove and re-insert?

ok
i switched off phone and 25 shortcut icons disappeared.  All of them of apps on the SD card.
But ... not all of the apps on the SD card lost their shortcut icons.  A few still had theirs there, perhaps 3.

I replaced all the shortcut icons and then moved 13 apps back to the phone, shut down the phone and started it up again.  No surprise - the 13 apps i moved back to the phone still had all their shortcut icons there.  But a surprise of sorts - so did 8 others, and the 8 only included 1 of the 3 on the SD card that stayed the first time.

sooo, definitely linked to the apps moved to the SD card.  But not with 100% corellation.
Bugger !!!
cos that means no obvious solution.  I'm still going to try a Factory Reset when i get brave enough.  But in the meantime ... any suggestions anyone?
