How to sync with itunes.

So you have a large iTunes library and now you have a Samsung Galaxy S -- but how can you make them work together to synchronize your music? The following guide shows you how to quickly and easy set up your computer to sync your Samsung Galaxy S with music from iTunes.

The first section details how to acquire a small piece of software called "iTunes Agent", that allows you to use your Galaxy S with iTunes on a Windows-based computer (we are assuming that you already have iTunes installed, and have an existing library of music). Mac users can achieve the same results by installing a program called iTuneMyWalkman.

Download and install iTunes Agent http://ita.sourceforge.net/
Once installed, the application runs in the system tray and monitors iTunes
Plug the Galaxy S into your computer's USB port and mount it (figure 1 above)
Create a folder on the mounted Galaxy S called Music
The second section, below, details how to create a configuration for the Galaxy S in iTunes Agent's Preferences (figure 2 for all steps below).



Right-click on the iTunes Agent icon in the system tray
Click Preferences
Leave all defaults checked and click the New button
Give the device a name (Galaxy S in this case)
Leave Synchronize pattern: set to iTunes
Click the Choose button and select the Music folder you created on the Galaxy S
Click the Create button and select the Music folder you created on the Galaxy S
Click Save and then Close
The final section explains how to add music to your Galaxy S (figure 3 for all steps below).



Launch iTunes and you will see a playlist folder called My Devices, under which you will see the Galaxy S
Simply drag the music you wish to synchronize from your iTunes library to your Galaxy S into this playlist
Finally, right-click on the iTunes Agent icon in the system tray and select Synchronize devices
Music is now copied to your Samsung Galaxy S and can be played using the Galaxy S's Music application.

having had my Galaxy S for a few weeks now I am still struggling to find an itunes/ipod equivalent. I really would like to get rid of iTunes but it made using the iPhone as an iPod very easy.

I drive a lot and listen predominantly to tech podcasts and audio books. Audio books are nicely taken care of with the audible app. I don't want to download podcasts on the Galaxy, because I want to keep some podcasts and that is easier to manage on the PC. I want to be able to sync my phone and automatically get a playlist of podcasts I haven't listened to yet.

So, I have been experimenting with MediaMonkey, Winamp, DoubleTwist, and The Missing Sync.

What I have noticed is that if I connect the Galaxy to a VmWare XP Virtual Machine all the programs work fine, but natively on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, I get odd behaviour:

Winamp, DoubleTwist, and the Missing Sync all will not recognize that I have connected the Galaxy. Yes it is in Mass storage mode, yes I have mounted the phone, yes I can see the drives in explorer and happily drag files to and from both the internal storage and the SD card.

Is anyone successfully using any of these applications with a 64 bit version of Windows 7?

Or has anyone had similar problems?

I use Salling Media Sync on a Mac, but there is a Windows version as well.

Winamp lets you sync wirelessly from a desktop to you as sgs. Works very well.

Is double Twist the best program to use to obtain music from itunes and sync it to your galaxy??

Use missing sync from the market and download the software for your mac (payable). Missing sync from the market will explain how.It works great but is slow and the Samsung heats up it you sync a lot at one time. Also get mp3 tagger pro for your artwork afterwards. Cheers.

iTunes is a great program for organizing iTunes music onto an iDevice; any other device is bound to have conflicts because it's proprietory software. I've dragged albums using the mass storage setting and dropboxed albums but they are mp3s and I don't have the problem you are having.
