So you have a large iTunes library and now you have a Samsung Galaxy S -- but how can you make them work together to synchronize your music? The following guide shows you how to quickly and easy set up your computer to sync your Samsung Galaxy S with music from iTunes.

The first section details how to acquire a small piece of software called "iTunes Agent", that allows you to use your Galaxy S with iTunes on a Windows-based computer (we are assuming that you already have iTunes installed, and have an existing library of music). Mac users can achieve the same results by installing a program called iTuneMyWalkman.
http://ilari.scheinin.fidisk.fi/itunemywalkman/

Download and install iTunes Agent http://ita.sourceforge.net/
Once installed, the application runs in the system tray and monitors iTunes
Plug the Galaxy S into your computer's USB port and mount it (figure 1 above)
Create a folder on the mounted Galaxy S called Music
The second section, below, details how to create a configuration for the Galaxy S in iTunes Agent's Preferences (figure 2 for all steps below).

Right-click on the iTunes Agent icon in the system tray
Click Preferences
Leave all defaults checked and click the New button
Give the device a name (Galaxy S in this case)
Leave Synchronize pattern: set to iTunes
Click the Choose button and select the Music folder you created on the Galaxy S
Click the Create button and select the Music folder you created on the Galaxy S
Click Save and then Close
The final section explains how to add music to your Galaxy S (figure 3 for all steps below).

Launch iTunes and you will see a playlist folder called My Devices, under which you will see the Galaxy S
Simply drag the music you wish to synchronize from your iTunes library to your Galaxy S into this playlist
Finally, right-click on the iTunes Agent icon in the system tray and select Synchronize devices
Music is now copied to your Samsung Galaxy S and can be played using the Galaxy S's Music application.

I downloaded iTunes Agent and used it to copy my music into the Galaxy-S phone.  But the Music Player in the phone does not see any music in the phone.  My guess is, that it's looking for a different file format and the iTunes are not playable with this tool.

So what is next, folks?  Suggestions appreciated.

Hi All,

having had my Galaxy S for a few weeks now I am still struggling to find an itunes/ipod equivalent. I really would like to get rid of iTunes but it made using the iPhone as an iPod very easy.

I drive a lot and listen predominantly to tech podcasts and audio books. Audio books are nicely taken care of with the audible app. I don't want to download podcasts on the Galaxy, because I want to keep some podcasts and that is easier to manage on the PC. I want to be able to sync my phone and automatically get a playlist of podcasts I haven't listened to yet.

So, I have been experimenting with MediaMonkey, Winamp, DoubleTwist, and The Missing Sync.

What I have noticed is that if I connect the Galaxy to a VmWare XP Virtual Machine all the programs work fine, but natively on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, I get odd behaviour:

Winamp, DoubleTwist, and the Missing Sync all will not recognize that I have connected the Galaxy. Yes it is in Mass storage mode, yes I have mounted the phone, yes I can see the drives in explorer and happily drag files to and from both the internal storage and the SD card.

Is anyone successfully using any of these applications with a 64 bit version of Windows 7?

Or has anyone had similar problems?

disclaimer - I do not use iTunes.

Gizmodo has mention of an iTunes app called Music Withme. There is a trial in market. Anyone want to do a review?

A few problems regarding the media player....

1. How the hell do you transfer music from itunes or the folder your music is stored in to your phone while keeping the song names organized with the correct artist/song names that are labeled in itunes??

I can get my music on to the phone but many of the tracks have terrible unorganized names similar to songs downloaded off Limewire.

2. It seems when I am playing music my songs with stop for about 1 second randomly while I'm listening. It seems to happen every twenty seconds or so where the song glitches very quietly... Is this cause Kies uploads terribly or is something up with the media player....?

Please help!!!

I use missing sync, works great but the mac software isn't free. Plus the Galaxy S heats up, so if you do sync that way only sync small files.

I am yet to find one program that will sync my music onto my phone organized similar to how it is on itunes... I'm not sure what else to try...

Doubletwist worked for some songs...

Setting my phone as a device using itunes agent made it easy to get my music onto my phone but all the info wasn't transferred with it... My track names were all messed, half my songs were listed with unknown artists...

Sallor was crap.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong or need to change my file in its destination folder somehow. Anyone please help I bought this hoping the media player would be able to compete against the iphone.. As of now im regretting my decision.

Use missing sync from the market and download the software for your mac (payable). Missing sync from the market will explain how.It works great but is slow and the Samsung heats up it you sync a lot at one time. Also get mp3 tagger pro for your artwork afterwards. Cheers.
I downloaded iTunes Agent and used it to copy my music into the Galaxy-S phone.  But the Music Player in the phone does not see any music in the phone.  My guess is, that it's looking for a different file format and the iTunes are not playable with this tool.

None of these programs are fixing my issue.... I don't understand. In the folder my music is stored in on my computer every file has an artist, contributing artist, and track name organized and listed. As soon as I try putting it onto my phone using either the mass storage setting, windows media player, Itunes agent, double twist, or kies, under artists there will be a column called <unknown> where half my music is listed under. Why isnt it syncing all the track information...?

I'm no genius but itunes is a program that works very well and is easy to organize. How come there is no easy solution to sync music while obtaining the organization you have put hours into maintaining.

iTunes is a great program for organizing iTunes music onto an iDevice; any other device is bound to have conflicts because it's proprietory software. I've dragged albums using the mass storage setting and dropboxed albums but they are mp3s and I don't have the problem you are having.
