Quick question and help please.

My premises burgular alarm texts me when its goes off, so I want my SGS to alert me when in bed late at night. How do I get my SGS to use a different alert tone for a text from the number my alarm texts me from, so when I'm lying in bed asleep, when i hear a different tone (as opposed to getting an ordinary text or email) I'll be alerted to the fact that its my premises alarm that gone off and is texting me!

Is there anyway to set this up please?

thanks,

MHC

MHC~
I use the free program called handcent sms . it replaces (well works on top of) the stock sms program (which is pretty limited imho , hence me using handcent) and adds tons of extra options (many free but some require payment)!

one of the options it adds is the ability to set a custom ring/text tone per number! you can customize not only the sound, but also the volume of it, the color of the icon, if you phone supports it the blinking pattern of the led light(s) and more!

i would suggest not only installing handcent, but also grab rings extended so you can search your ENTIRE phone for a sound to use (instead of being able to only see the sounds in the default folder)

hope that helps!

p.s.
if/when you install handcent, to set a personalized tone for any given contact/number. open a text from that contact then click the icon in the top right corner: notifications: 'whatever option you wish to change

my brother tried go sms ... but then we learned that it ate up his data plan minutes ... it ALWAYS connects :s handcent doesnt do that ...
having said that, go sms had some seeminly schweet features ... so if you have an unlimited data plan, its another great choice!
