Just upgrading to 2.2 and I am wanting to keep a few folders of sms threads and am not sure how this works.  Through kies I can copy the messages to a floder on my computer and it saves it as a FILE_NAME.sme

My question is can I view those messages and also can I install them back on the phone when i perform a factory reset.

There are a couple of threads that I really need to keep and am worried about losing them.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

You could try SMS backup and restore from Market. I had 4.5 stars and is free. it backs up to the SD card but doesn't preserve time stamps (I gather from the reviews) SMSBackup+ is also free and backs up to Google. I just searched market for backup and these popped up  Smile

Try the search or check the how to thread before asking a question.

Thanks casz. I would love to try that but i think im getting one of thise errors that happens when you dont factory reset after upgrading to 2.2  I cant get onto the market as i get an error message.  I also can only get online using wifi. I cant use 3g or hspa.

I had saved them to my pc using kies but dont think i will be able to put them back on after a factory reset. :-(

Yep you're in need of a reset. Are they specific messages you want to save because I pressed and held on a message and it gave a save to SIM option. It doesn't work for an entire thread but could do for this.

Do you have a QR reader installed? If you don't, that's something I've found invaluable. When you're surfing on another device, you can take a picture with your phone and it links to a website - or market.

Well I got lucky last night and managed to get the market working and was able to try some of those sms backup tools.  I'm not exactly sure how the markey started to work again.  I was playing around with the running services and just thought, why not give it one more try.  Well it worked and I managed to back up my sms and it worked, even with the time stamps and everything.  I was pretty nervous and used two programs but with some luck the first one worked as it said it would.

So up and running with froyo 2.2 and trying to learn what is new and different.  There is a bit of a learning curve but with the help of knowledgeable people on this forum I might just get this phone figured out yet.   Big Smile
