if you wanna lock certain apps with a combination then go on the market and search for the app 'protector' works well for me. if you want the lock to be activated everytime you turn on the screen then your phone has to be running Android 2.2 Froyo.

Settings > Location and Security > Set screen lock

Choices: None, Pattern, PIN, Password

*Note: If you're running Android 2.1 Eclair then you will only have a pattern lock.

No worries. As funny as that may have been, you don't need to unlock the device when receiving a call. You DO, however, need to do so when accessing text messages.

The only downside I find with using a screen lock on the Galaxy S is that it denies you access to that scroll-down CD thing that allows you to control music playback; If you use your phone as a music player as much as I do, then you'll understand why I prefer leaving my phone unlocked.

In case you're wondering, I keep it tied to myself to prevent it from being stolen with one of those wallet chains. That way, I have less to worry about re: losing it LOL

Cheers,
Lyander.
