Hi there,

I just got the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. Seems like a nice phone. Every phone I've had in the past (Nokia, Sony, etc...) has always allowed me to hide my number so that the call display on the receiver's phone shows my call as 'private'.

This is useful for when you don't want certain people to have your number when you call.

Is there a way to do this on the Galaxy S? I couldn't seem to find any setting how.

Solutions?

VG

Great! Is there a way to make a shortcut of this that is easily accessible so you can toggle hiding your number on and off?

There is a prefix you can add to the contact, though check with your operator or test it first as it does differ from country to country.

Say the number you want to dial is 0123456, save it as *670123456

For Canada the prefix is *67
UK 141
The GSM standard is #31# and should work everywhere (they follow the GSM standard, meaning America is optional)

For you, I've search through my GS and the best I can get to is 3 clicks. But I'm not sure whether this is only available with LauncherPro, because the Activities icon looks like LauncherPro.

Long-press on your screen, select [Shortcuts] > [Activities] > [Call settings] > [All calls]. This will create a Widget that brings you directly to All calls, what you need to do now is tap [Show my number] > [Hide].
