Hi All,

I am a new Samsung Galaxy S user, upgraded from being solely a Nokia user.
First impressions are good, very impressed with the phone and the features, sure there is much that I have to learn.

However I (so far) do not like the contacts app, all I can find is the name and the number entries. Unlike my Nokia I could assign a different tone for each contact, display a picture and make it tell me who was calling by voice ID.
I would of thought this would of been a give-in for all the new phones.
I have checked the options with the menu button (bottom left) and no extra features to add.

Is there something I have missed, or is the standard contacts just this and I need to load a different app?

So if anyone could help with any advise I'd be most grateful.

Regards Kevin. New Zealand
PS. I see there's mention in this forum about upgrading to a newer OS version, will this help, and is it easy to do?

If you go to the contacts that you have already added, and tap on one of them it will go to a screen that shows their name and numbers.  Tap on the menu button (bottom left) and a pop up screen will show an edit button.  Tap the edit button.  If you click on the sillouhette of the person it will allow you to assign a photo to that contact from your phone or allow you to take one of that person.  Next to assign a ringtone to that contact you just need to scroll down.  Tap on ringtone. Now you can choose your ringtone from the preset tones or from any sounds that you may have loaded into your phone.

I hope that this has answered your question. Evil

Thank you for the reply and the information.
At first I did not see the extra fields you were mentioning, then I thought that maybe it was because the contacts were on the "sim" card?
Once I made a contact on the phone, not the sim card all the mentioned fields were there, and I can put all the data I want.
One thing to remember "sim cards" only hold so much data. An easy catch me out!

Now to get on learning the other features.

A big thanks. Smile

Regards Kevin.
