do you have it set to ask on connection? The easiest thing to do is connect as a mass storage device rather than with Kies for just transferring pictures.

That seems odd. I have never had my device fail to install as a mass storage device. Are you using the cable that came with the phone?

I mostly use Dropbox for transferring pictures or I store to my micro SD. I was also reading about SugarSync which automatically stores your photos on the web.

None of these solutions address the inability of your device to connect to a computer though and that would concern me.

I've spent ALL DAY trying to do this, but failed.  I refuse to accept that it's just me.  There are so many posts on this problem, that I cannot believe there is no straightforward fix.  Does anyone else feel let down by Samsung?  I have done all the things that have been suggested and nothing has worked.  I wish I'd never bought this phone.  Does anyone have any ideas?  My computer doesn't even recognise the phone exists, and the phone is about to take flying lessons out of the window!!!  Aaaaggggghhhh!
And just to clarify, I've done the USB thing, I've set it to Mass Storage, I've installed and uninstalled Kies (waste of space that was) and still nothing is happening.  My phone model is a GT-I9000, firmware 2.2.1
