I just got my Galaxy S phone Friday (actually it's the Mesmerize - U.S. Cellular's version of the Galaxy S I think).  The sales rep told me I would be able to sync my outlook calender/contacts with my phone, but so far I have not figured out how to do that.

I google'd and found lots of references to "pc studio".  I downloaded that in installed it, but it doesn't recognize my phone being attached to the computer.

What do I need to use to be able to do this sync?

Does Kies work with your device? PC Studio was for winmo.

Here is what you need to do.
From the home page choose apps. lower right corner.
click on your email icon.
You should be at the email home screen.
Touch the email account you want to edit.
Now touch the lower left soft key on the phone and it brings up the menu.
touch account settings and scroll down to "server settings"
Make sure both sync options have the green check mark highlighted.
You can also change the frequency the sync's happen on the same scroll screen under General settings and touch "Email check frequency".

having had both phone (x2) and laptop meltdowns last year and spent several days rebuilding contacts each time i decided to use a Gmail account and buy gSyncit.  Best $16 (?) i think i've ever spent.  It installed on my laptop and syncs my Outlook calender / contacts with my Gmail account.  The Gmail account automatically syncs with my Samsung Galaxy S.  After my initial sync i can now enter calender or contact details anywhere in my Outlook, Gmail or SGS and within a short time they automatically update up and down the foodchain.

There are a couple of hiccups.
I occasionally get double calender entries - i vaguely remember seeing a FAQ dealing with this but i haven't bothered to read and sort yet.
Also, when using the Right to Left swipe of a contact on the SGS to open a text message it always calls up the 1st number listed, so i have to remember to list the phone numbers for each contact in an order that the top listing is the mobile (cell) number i want to use for that contact's messaging. Other than these two things - it works like a dream for me with the added bonus that i have built in security for all my calender / contact listings.  I can't imagine all three of them crashing at the same time

I like the gmail/calendar options as well. I got used to having Palm Desktop and this is even better.

I personally hate Kies! it always locks up my laptop, so i don't use it at all.  I have my SGS sync OTA with my company outlook email, contacts and calendar.  Works very well, much better now that my phone is updated to 2.2 (factory after phone repaired last week sheesh!) On my outlook contacts i choose the "By Category" tab and edit my contacts as per the category i want, when done, i "send/receive" ( hit F9 key) to send to server, then on phone i go to menu/settings/accounts and sync/my corporate account(i have contacts&calendar both "checked"/ menu "sync now" should come up. Mine only takes a few minutes and voila! everything sync'd and updated. (just redid all 300 contacts on mine on the weekend) If you have that many contacts, it could take a little while for everything to sync be patient.  This way will sync everything to your corporate account, not the phone itself, so when you go to your "contacts" on your phone and then go to "groups" scroll down to Corporate account and your "categories" that you input in Outlook should be there! Mine is working really well.  when i make a change on my phone, sync it, F9 in outlook, boom its there! and visa versa! Hope this helps!

Hi,

Where is the "server settings"? In my Account Settings page, it takes me to a page with 2 major groupings: "Account Settings" and "Actions". Within the Account Settings group, there is "Email", "Folders", and "Contacts". Where can I change the frequency of the sync? I cannot find it anywhere within the Account Settings menu. My sync questions applies to both contacts and email. I use the "Samsung Email" (with the blue S) instead of the "Email" (green @ sign) and I use both Hotmail and Gmail.

Phone stats:
Model: GT-I9000M
Build number: FROYO.UGJL2
Release: 2.2

Thanks
