Rooted and unlocked my SGS, ( if yours is unlocked no need to root), download your stock rom by CheckFus (in case something goes wrong or warranty you can flash back the stock rom).
then flash Darky10.1 or CM7 and then you will see what SGS capable of  Cool

You wont loose any of your applications by rooting  but flashing new Rom will wipe everything, Wink Wink

If you are on froyo its so simple use superoneclick for rooting

then use Galaxy S Unlocker from market to unlock it

Download Check Fus Downloader 1.2 - GUI on your computer from;
http://fus.nanzen.se/

run check fus on your pc then find your stock rom and download it for back to factory setting if needed,

here is how to flash darky 10.1 stable

I've installed  Darky 10.1 but still I can't read  Arabic or Persian font (middle east). it shows the characters separately   (not connected together) and some in reverse order...... do you have any idea?
