In my Samsung Galaxy phone I tried connecting the Phone via Wifi to the internet and it got connected. But the issue comes when, I wanted to setup a VPN connection with strongvpn.com to access skype Caller to make voip calls. I cannot access SKYPE in a normal connection it is blocked in my country.

I tried configurating VPN to but it is not getting connected. Tried PPTP, LT2P and LPTP secured. But no use. The VPN is not getting connected. There is no issue with the VPN connection as I am able to connect to the VPN using the same WIFI Connection.

Can anybody try this and let me know if there is any issue with VPN in Android ? Is there any other alternative ?

Hi there,

I'm actually experiencing the same problem right now. I'm able to establish a stable VPN connection to the office to run RDP. This works just perfect when I'm connected via wifi.
However, as soon as I do so over a 3G network the VPN freezes.

When I connect the VPN runs fine but after a short while the communictions stops. The phone just indicates the VPN is connected but there is no traffic anymore. I can't ping or resolve DNS anymore. Can it be an android Issue? I'm running v2.1 right now but I've seen the same issue on a Desire running v2.2.

Topic: StrongVPN setup tutorial for Android

Before you start, please make sure that you have account on one of vpn servers listed below:

San Francisco: vpn-sf19 or vpn-sf24. New York: vpn-in28 or vpn-in34. If you server is not one of these, you need switch to it from customer area.

Also please notice, only Android with firmware newer than 1.6 does support vpn.

Step 1

Start from home screen.

Step 2

Press button on your phone to call menu.

Step 3

Go to "Settings".

Step 4

Go to "Wireless & Networks".

Step 5

Then to "VPN Settings".

Step 6

Tap on "Add VPN" option.

Step 7

Then on "Add PPTP VPN" option.

Step 8

Select "VPN name".

Step 9

Input "StrongVPN" there (without quotes).

Step 10

Fill full server name, it should be one of following:

San Francisco: vpn-sf19.reliablehosting.com or vpn-sf24.reliablehosting.com New York: vpn-in28.reliablehosting.com or vpn-in34.reliablehosting.com. Server on screenshot is just an example.

Step 11

Disable encryption. It's necessary.

Step 12

Under "DNS search domains" enter 216.131.95.20

Step 13

Press menu button on phone and select "Save".

Step 14

Now you should see StrongVPN connection in list. Tap on it.

Step 15

Authorization window will appear. Enter your username (it should be like: vpn453, for example) and password (password is case sensitive).

Step 16

In fact here is no step 16, you should be successfully connected now.
