Hello Everyone,

My first Android Phone just bought it yesterday, I have been using the N900 for the past 8 months and honestly I am a little disappointed with the Galaxy S. It is not as polished as the N900.

The only this I liked so far are the selection of games. Which is a big plus IMO.

Anyway, I was reading this thread and I went to this Link. That is rather biased reasoning, but I understand where the author comes from.

From what I understand, if I don't root I stay with the proprietary Samsung stuff, and if I root I loose the Samsung stuff. Correct? or am I missing something?

No, root don't make you loose anything (except your warranty, maybe).

Root give you access to your device's system, so you can tweak and modify it as you wish.

But, since you're new to this stuff and Froyo is coming soon, don't do it. Wait and upgrade to 2.2, then decide.  Wink Wink

I don't understand, can you give me one good reason not to? If you think it's because it's hard or something, then that is not a problem. I have done it many times on my N900. I have seen the instructions for the Android as well seems straight forward.

Why wait when I can do it now. As for OTA Froyo it has been claimed to get released in nov but from what I understand this was delayed date, what guarantee is there that it won't get delayed yet again, and if it does come out I can always just revert and get 2.2 OTA, Right?

No, I have no reason. It's just an advice.

Yes, it's pretty easy, but there's always some risk involved.

If you decide to root it, then lag-fix it also. You'll be amaze with the speed  Wink Wink

Just remember you'll have to un-lag-fix and un-root it before updating to Froyo.

You mentioned about updating OTA...which model do you have?

Because i9000 don't get OTA updates. You have to update it through Kies.

You just gave me a solid reason to root.

I use Linux, so no Kies for me.  Wink Wink

BTW can you point me to a good 2.2 Rom.

I'm still on 2.1, 2.2 Froyo had not released for this part of the globe yet.

I am sorry I assumed you rooted your droid to get Froyo.

I have a I9000XXJP2.rar

I don't know how to use it. BTW is the process reversible?

As I know, you don't need root to get Froyo.

Where, you get the I9000XXJP2.rar, they should have an instruction on how to flash it.

I think you can flash it back, but you'll need your original firmware. You'll have to port/extract it somehow. You should be able to find more detail instructions in xda developers forum.
