Samsung has outed its latest iteration of the Galaxy S, the Samsung Galaxy S Plus i9001. Initially headed to Russia at the end of April – where it will launch as the Galaxy S 2011 Edition – the new version packs a 1.4GHz processor along with the same 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display of the original.

There’s also 8GB of internal storage, HD video recording and playback, and a bigger, 1,650 mAh battery with a new metal back panel to cover it. The Galaxy S Plus i9001 runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, with Samsung’s own TouchWiz 3.0 on top.

The new version will be priced at 23,990 rubles ($844) when it lands on Russian shores at the end of next month. No word on broader availability, but we’re guessing this new 2011 edition will be slotting in as the single-core mid-range device in Samsung’s range in a number of markets.

Why TouchWiz 3.0?

It is easy enough to Run the Stock SGS at 1.2 Ghz.

I don't see the appeal, Maybe it's so they can justify the 1Ghz Dual Core pricing of the S2?

Got to wait and see, I am sure they are not stupid enough to keep the same internals that would be like paying more for a small software tweak.

But I agree Samsung is getting aggressive, they seem to be best contender for IPhone now.

[sarcasm]Especially with their innovative design, which mimics it's apple cousin[/sarcasm]

Peace.

True enough, but given how aggressive most other manufacturers are getting with their sales pitching, it's not much of a surprise that someone decided to take the initiative.

I'm just glad it's Samsung, honestly. Apart from the fact that their Galaxy line does somewhat resemble the iPhone line, I find no real fault with their products. Three cheers for them, I say!

Anyway, do you think upgrading from the original Galaxy S to the Galaxy S Plus is justified? Personally, I'm just gonna wait for the S II, since all the Plus is offering is a bigger battery and a faster processor. Oh, and 8GB less internal storage over its predecessor, if the above article is correct.

And it's not like you can't just buy the 1650 mAh battery and replace it with your 1500 mAh one; They're the exact same size.

P.S.
Something that's been bothering me... I've been hearing news of a Galaxy S II Mini. PLEASE don't tell me that this is a separate phone from that?! I mean, regardless of how aggressive you may want to appear, flooding the market with almost-similar smartphones seems like a pretty good way to lose a lot of money, what with there being  lot of Apple, Sony Ericsson, and LG loyalists out there.

For the record, I'm not much of a patriot when it comes to electronics brands.

Cheers!

I think what they started doing is Introduce the different Products for different regions.

Alot of the them are rumors. What I guess Samsung will do is make the S2 and then a couple of months later introduce the Mini.

I think they are just trying to keep up with apple. Iphone 5 is coming out soon so they are trying to figure out what apple will be spewing out in preperation.

No sane business man will bring out so many different phones, Nokia did it and it brought their demise, people don't like the confusion.

Plus will they be able to keep sales up with so many Versions.

Peace.
