Well yea but that was back when Apple was harmless. It is like war now they are taking Samsungs people, we want em' back. But I'm sure they send supplies but I'm not sure if it makes them partners

Nope they are not officially partners. Although we can always speculate that they might have disclosed agreements without making them official partners. They benefit each other that is for sure.

Let's not loose hope yet. If galaxy S is well marketed and makes a big splash, they might steal the spotlight from apple entirely.

We all know that samsung has always been the superior hardware. Now that it has andriod, it now has a decent enough software to compete with the apple OS.

If the Galaxy is marketed very well, and if out of the Box if the touchwiz 3 has been dumb down enough, to the level of the iphone OS, then the 99% user that I have talked about before might now switch to samsung.

The best thing about the Galaxy S, android will have a lot to offer us advanced users compared to the apple OS.

Its a win win for everyone, all samsung need to do the to compete with the "brainwash" marketing strategy of apple.

yea and If Samsung is going to take it from apple this phone is going to be at the for-front of it.
I think beating apple is going to have to be a phone that is going to have it's own software on it Android doesn't get the respect from the common people media NBS, CNN, BBC and other companies don't really push it unlike the how the iPhone was when it came out.

I just hate that it is only 3.3 inches screen

Samsung is a supplier for apples phone. For the 1st gen iphone, they supply the GPU chip. For the later generations, from what I can remember, its the Memory chip, GPU chip, and the screen. Although it was not clear if it was the tft or the glass or whatever part of the screen.

And it is not just samsung, Majority of iphone parts came from a taiwanese supplier. Forgot the brand

You guys can Google it to get more info. Heck! That how I found out about it too.

Samsung produces the System on a Chip (SoC) in the current iPhone 3GS, the S5PC100. The memory, GPU and CPU are all together in this SoC. Samsung also produces the screen, as it does for many phone manufacturers.

Foxconn manufactures pretty much the rest of the iPhone and internals, with a few select chips coming from other suppliers (like the WiFi chip etc).

The Hummingbird SoC in the Samsung Galaxy S is probably the same one (though somewhat modified by Apple) that we'll see in the iPhone 4 (iPhone HD).

Not sure if we'll see this happen in the iPhone after that though, since Apple just bought Intrinsity, which up until now has been Samsung's "secret weapon" in designing the Hummingbird SoC. Apple will probably use Intrinisty to design its next SoC without Samsung's help, using only Samsung to manufacture and supply the chip.

The question is who Samsung is going to design a new chip now that Intrinsity has been taken away from them...

I don't think that being a supplier makes you partners... first of all.

Anyway, very interesting discussion. I just moved to Galaxy from the iPhone and I love it too. My only beef so far (and correct me if there are alternatives or ways around this) is that I cannot find any Mac OSx support for my Samsung.

Even when I called Samsung, they boldly (and apologetically at the same time) told me that I would not be able to use my Samsung in conjunction with an Apple computer. Now, I'm certainly a good standing member of the Apple haters club, but I still have an iMac that I need to be able to use with my mobile device.

Shame on Samsung (or Android?) for overlooking this. If I'm wrong, please correct me and enlighten me. I'm looking for solutions!

It depends on what sort of support you mean. If it's just simply using the phone as a mass storage device with drag and drop music/songs/pictures, then with Mac it's okay.

But for other aspects like upgrading firmware via Kies, Mac is incompatible as the drivers required for the mentioned process only suit Windows OS.

Even if the only support is that the Galaxy will work as a mass storage device, Samsung is unfortunately never going to be able to acquire that very large demographic of consumers who rely on Mac OS based computers. And whether you like Apple or not, I believe this is a major oversight on Samsung's behalf and a limitation on the growth of the Galaxy product line.

However, unless there is something I am unaware of, my Galaxy does not work even as a storage device on Apple computer products. I often plug my phone into my iMac to charge it (simply because the USB port is against the back of my couch and it is conveniently accessible) but the computer does not recognize the phone in any way. Even 'Disk Utility' does not see it.

Can you try going to [Settings] > [About phone] > [USB settings] and select [Mass storage]?
