I'm interested in buying the SGS and from what I've been reading I've gathered that some SGSs might come with a few limitations.
Such as:
1. Not being able to enter Download/Recovery mode
2. Not sim free
3. Can't be rooted
4. Anything else that I'm missing?

And I was wondering how can I make sure that the one I'm buying doesn't have those limitations.
Is there anyway to check for those features during the purchase?
I've also read that the none-simfree can be fixed by unlocking the phone and the 3br can be patched, but won't those issues revert when I'll upgrade to a new version?
Basically is there a way to tell that the phone's software was not tempered with in anyway (unlocked, 3br patched) and that it doesn't have all the aforementioned limitations?

1)If you can't get into download mode, there is a jig you can make that will force the device into it. There are also software fixes on XDA
2)Check the phone, i9000 series have SIM
3)Most versions of the Galaxy S (S, Captivate, Vibrant, and Epic) have been rooted.
4)research on the internet to see what problems people have had.

If you are that concerned, only purchase in person where you can examine the device and pop the back off. It's not immediately obvious if a phone has been tampered with other than seeing if there are apps requiring ROOT installed (more research for you HUH?) or at least the superuser icon in the app drawer.

Try the search or check the how to thread before asking a question.

You mean there are no Samsung I9000 Galaxy S that are simfree from the factory?

You can read this thread[/ur] on XDA to find out for yourself. I found it by typing 19000 versions in a search engine and clicking a couple of links.

You know what you want to get; I know what I have.
