I just found out that my SGS back camera lens cover cracked. It was during when I wanted to use my SGS to take picture, I notice that there is a glare of lights on my capture screen, so I thought it might be finger prints on the camera lens. When trying to clean the lens cover, only to be discovered that it has cracked.

And:
1) no, I did not drop my SGS
2) no, I did not borrow my SGS to someone else
3) the only time my SGS was not on the table is when I put it in my pants pocket
4) no, I didn't keep my SGS in the rear pocket of my pants
5) no, no one sat on my lap when I kept my SGS on my pants pocket
6) when it is in my pants pocket, no other object share the same pocket with my SGS
7) no, my pants is not that tight / fits until when sit down position, the tremendousness pressure of the tightness could break the lens cover.

From what I can come into conclusion is, the back camera lens cover might have a low level of pressure tolerance + has a design flaw. How could it cracked just like that, and I'm very careful in handling my SGS.

Anyone has a cracked back camera lens cover and didn't know how it occurred?

I suggest that you take your phone back to where you got it. They should either repair it or replace it for you.

Second lorsban's suggestion.

You are not even likely to have temperature extremes so it was most likely a manufacturing flaw.

If I were to post-up the replies email within Samsung internally regarding my cracked lens cover, I believe your reaction will just be the same as mine, disappointed and angry with Samsung Malaysia.

I'll just keep that email for future reference in case, if my replacement lens cover experienced the similar fate.

And I need to pay for the replacement unit. Samsung Malaysia stated that the lens cover is not covered by warranty. And it's not cheap. I had to change to a new housing as the lens cover is built onto the housing.

My question is, what if the replacement lens cover are the same [in-term of design, materials used and same batch] as my original lens cover? What if the replacement units also prone to cracked with a slight level of pressure?

Samsung Malaysia service personnel replied, the lens cover would not have cracked easily unless it was due to mishandling.
So, am I being accused for being mishandling my SGS, resulting in a cracked lens cover, and being a cheapskate, I take the opportunity to have it changed free-of-charge during the warranty period?

Can anyone help me to verify whether Samsung in your country, during warranty period covers crack lens cover?
*maybe help me make an inquiry to Samsung Service Outlet in your respective country?

Can't give any verification, because had never made such a claim.  Lips Sealed But what evidence do they have that proved any abused?

Rather than made some verification whether customer mis-handling or design flaw first, Samsung Malaysia customer service side firmly believe that this is due to customer mis-handling.

And also, Samsung Malaysia clearly stated that lens cover is not covered in its warranty. So who is going to protect us if the lens cover really has a design flaw?

Just because I might be the 1st person [or fall into minority] to complain this issue doesn't means they should take it lightly.

And please don't get me wrong here, I'm here not to bad-mouthed about Samsung Galaxy S.
I'm still loving it.

It's just that I'm extremely unhappy in how Samsung Malaysia SC side handles things.

Major bummer. I really don't know what else you can do in that case because if the camera lens was broken then it would either have been broken prior to your purchase or under your use.

Of course, samsung will never admit to sending a broken unit so they automatically put the blame on the user unless they're getting a large amounts of complains for a particular issue. So, the burden is on the user to prove it wasn't their fault. Unfair, I know. But it's a common problem when it comes to high tech electronics with a million little parts that can break.

I just found mine also cracked like a star at the center of the camera glass cover. I am also wondering how it happened since I never dropped or put pressure on my phone...  Crying

Same here. A star crack somehow showed up on the back lens cover. Phone is a month old and no drop could have caused this focused damage. Anyone have success in getting it repaired? How much did it cost?
