Soft Reset: System -> Privacy - > Factory Reset

Hard Reset:
Switch off Phone
Take out battery to make sure device is off.
Reinsert Battery
Press and HOLD Volume Up Key + Home Key + Power Key
As soon as the device lights up, let go of the Power Key, but keep the Volume up and Home Key Pressed.
Let go of all keys once you come to boot menu.
Now using the Volume rocker scroll to Factory Reset (I forgot the exact name)
and press home key.
Then scroll down to yes and press home key.
Once you return to boot menu scroll down to Reboot and press home key.

In my experience the Soft Reset is more thorough than the Hard Reset.

Peace.

Same problem here, terrible lag after 2.2 update. I read in here about the factory reset and did it. Now the phone runs as smooth as a baby's bottom !

Too bad i had to reinstall all my apps after the reset and setup every account on the phone Crying Is there a way to backup everything (except: contacts, photos and video) ? It's stupid if you have to wipe your entire phone after every update in order to make the lag go away !

Also, any info on how to make Facebook push notifications ? I have everything checked and it still won't do a thing !

sorry for the late Reply,

First of all Happy new year,

For back up please look at Titanium Backup.

As for Facebook I don't use it so I can't help you with that.

Peace.

Hi there,

I was having 2.1 and it was lagging, before couple of days I upgraded to 2.2 and it is still lagging. I want now to do Factory Reset as recommended here, but I just have the below concerns:

1)
As far as I understand, factory reset can be done by simply going to:
Settings --> Privecy --> Factory Reset
Is that correct or should I follow some other procedure?

2)
Does the factory reset on 2.2 will take me back to 2.1 level?

3)
Will I lose the localization support. I mean I have SGS from Middle East and it has Arabic Keyboard support, so is this affected by Factory Reset?

I am new to Android...

Thanks...

Yes, there are other methods, but this is the best one IMHO.

2)

No, I can see how you would think that. Don't Worry these are Flashed ROMs.

It will just Reset to whatever the last Flashed Data was. (In your case 2.2).

3)
Will I lose the localization support. I mean I have SGS from Middle East and it has Arabic Keyboard support, so is this affected by Factory Reset?

No, as long as the Official 2.1 also had Arabic you will be fine.

I am new to Android...

Thanks...

Everyone starts new, please enjoy your Android Experience.

Peace.
