goodbye galaxy s i9000

I have finally sold my galaxy s i9000 today....
After about 3 weeks of using the device and having all the problems with the phone i decided to sell it.... although the decision was an easy one because it was easy to sell the phone at a profit since actually there are high demand for the phone and limited supply.... i guess most people still dont know about all the problems that this phone has.....



at my age, 36, i dont wish to spend too much time trying to fix the phone like applying rom, fixes, firmware etc.... i just want a smartphone that works well out of the box....
so after so many problems i experience using the phone i decided to sell it....

problems i faced:
- GPS very inaccurate and sometimes cannot lock signals and shows me in different country.... not to mention it cannot track continuously....
- Phone hangs when i am in a conversation and another caller comes in....
- quite frequent lags that sometimes can only be fixed by restarting the phone
- email apps takes long time to load the contents
- GSM signal quite erratic, phone must be held certain way to avoid drop in signals.... just like iphone 4 but maybe not as severe.... i am not sure....but it bothers me because i can see the signal dropping 2-3 bars when i hold it certain way
-keyboard which i just cannot get accustomed to, i dont know if its a problem of the touch screen sensor which is not precised or because of the size of the device that is a bit too wide....but the bottom line is that i find myself making lots of typing mistakes when using it one handedly
- overall samsung touchwiz quirks and the widgets are not to my liking....
- firmware fix update for my asia pacific region doesnt seem to come along fast enough... i only see one update which is the one thats giving me all the problems mentioned above..... but i see the european firmware gets update very frequently.....this makes me mad.... but the bad thing is that even the european updates seems to be still having most of the problems, especially the gps problem....

so after thinking thinking thinking... i sold it.... and i sold it after only 30 minutes of posting my advertisement in internet....

i just thought i'd share my experience......

I am really interested in HTC Desire.... seems like most users have nothing but good to say about the phone's speed and stability....
the only drawback is the battery , but i think i can live with that

any other suggestions?

I am sorry to hear you got rid of your Galaxy S. I think it is the best phone around, and you will get at least the same amount of problems with any other simmilar phone on the market. It is a very new phone after all, and in half of year all problems will be ironed out.

1. The GPS problem is known and apparently Samsung ackowledged it. I found a fix for it, though I did not test it myself: http://www.intomobile.com/2010/07/21/t-mobile-samsung-vibrant-galaxy-s-gps-issues-fix-tutorial/

2. I confirm that sometimes, when I get a call waiting, the phone acts erraticaly. I normally get my bluetooth headset disconnected....

3. I confirm the phone does laggs sometimes, unexplainable because of its tremendeous processor power, but I never had to restart it. You could try killing some apps.

4. E-mail is buggy an laggy. I was unable to "convince" it to refresh my e-mail accounts on the pre-set time. Sometimes it refresh, sometimes it does not. I do have 10 E-mail accounts....

5. The stock keyboard is in deed not that good. However, it was very easy for me to install a HTC keyboard, which is way beter. The multitouch keyboard from Motorola Droid X can also be installed and it is quite good.

It is a Android phone after all and installing new applications, tweaking and modding is one of its purposes and advantages. If one cannot do this, maybe a featurephone would be better (eg: Samsung Jet, HTC Smart, etc)
