This maybe just an issue I've been seeing with the Hong Kong version, the i9000 international version, of the phone, but is anyone else experiencing freezes? I was hoping upgrading the firmware + lag fix would solve this issue.

It hasn't. The phone will still lock up, the screen is unresponsive, as are the controls. I need to hold down the power button to get the whole phone to reset.

What I think you need is some sort of memory/app management app. Android sometimes runs apps and keeps apps running in the background. So, you need to keep these in check with some sort of app/task/memory management system which you can find in the market.

I had that problem and it turned out to be a weather app.  If it couldn't update (ie I stuff everything in a gym locker where there is no signal) it would lock up my phone. I would check what app I installed last and try uninstalling to see if the problem goes away. Also set programs to on check the internet intermittently or don't sync stuff.

Good point, Casz.

What shocked the hell out of me was when I noticed my phone bill steadily going up every minute even when I wasn't using my phone. Turns out, Android is set up to be always connected out of the box so a lot of apps (even the built in ones) are set up to always check and sync automatically. What I did was to switch everything to manual and also to get an apn on/off app.

There's no unlimited data plan for my country, so you can imagine my shock when I checked the bill. And even if there were an unlimited plan, I still wouldn't do auto sync because I don't want programs running in the background needlessly. Turning on wifi and syncing is very easy to do anyway.

Thanks for the replies guys. It is so hard to figure out what app it might be.

1) Certain days it doesn't hang. The last 2 days It hasn't hung at all. I haven't uninstalled any software, though I did update some software.
2) It is so hard to keep track of the software that I install/update. It's a lot of trouble shooting just to find out what software maybe effecting the phone. There must be a better way to do this? a debug log?
3) Instead of freezing up entirely, I've noticed a few instances where the lock screen is super slow responding, but if I wait and press the home button, it eventually responds. In the past I've done this as well.. but it really locks/freezes up. So this is some what of an improvement.
4) I've had task managers on for a while. I don't really believe in constantly killing tasks, so I use systempanel lite to monitor tasks and I use Super Manager which has a built in 'memory cleaner'. Essentially I'm killing tasks, except I've excluded a lot of the messengers and systems tasks already so it only kills games and other run once in a while applications.

I just uninstalled a few apps i really don't use, including a weather app i had download a long time ago I don't use. I'll keep watching this to see how it goes. The feed back is appreciated. Hopefully crowd sourcing will help all us Galaxy S users out!

Well, after 2 days, while I was wasting time on Robo defense it decided to crash again. I guess I start my count again. I was quite hopeful...but feeling a bit disappointed again.

See, I'm on the bell network and it rarely, if ever, happens to me. I've also noticed by screen is super sensitive, if I hover a finger over something it can launch.

I'm actually out in Hong Kong. I use Three.com.hk service here. Last 3-4 days my phone has been fine. Another friend mentioned it might be due to the carrier? My phone really hasn't changed that much since I had updated the firmware through Kies, and it was freezing up then, but suddenly the problems went away on it's own?

I wish there was some logical explanation for this. I don't quite understand what could possibly be happening on the carrier side of things to cause a freeze/lockup on the phone? Unless some odd market update fixed a program I happened to have installed that was freezing/locking things up?

So my update so far is... all the problems worked out by itself. I'm no closer to understanding why, but it works perfectly the last few days.

It could be some of the software that you have downloaded. Did you notice whether it ran without lag/freezing  before downloading any particular application, widget, wallpaper, etc. ?

Also, check what firmware you're version.
"Eclair-update1"is the version that reduces that problem significantly(unless rooted). If you have just "Eclair", then download KIES onto your computer and upgrade you're phone to that version.

i have been experiencing the same problems with my Samsung i9000...I think that it mainly hangs when the battery is low...i have noticed that the phone hangs when I have very low battery and I am playing a game or the wifi is on etc...but on other days with the same strain on resources the phone works fine...and I have noticed that the battery is at least half full on those occasions or at least it isnt at the end of its limits...hope this helps in some way
