Found a Vibrant on the street.  Want to give it back to the owner, but they have an unlock code.  Its the pattern drawing one, not the number combo.

Is there anyway for me to get into the phone?  Obviously I don't know their gmail, and I can't connect the phone to my computer because I need to go into the phone to turn the USB function on.

I appreciate that you may be on the level with this but can you see it from other peoples point of view.
For all we know you could have stolen or bought this phone (not suggesting you have though) and be seeking help to gain access to it.
I'd suggest a local flyer campaign to try to find the owner might be more productive, if that doesn't work simply hand it to the local law enforcement agency, your role as an upstanding citizen is then fulfilled.

Just leave the device on, with the sim card in.

You should turn it in at the nearest carrier store (t-mobile, verizon whatever). They may be able to trace the owner by the SIM card - they can in Canada -to return to owner.
