Hello, I just bought a Galaxy S and I'm very satisfied of it. I want to ask if it's good to have antivirus on it? I saw on market that there is an application. Is it worth it? There are viruses yet for android? It will slow down the system this antivirus?

Please answer only if you have any idea for this problem!

Thanks!

I do know that there is some applications on the market but the thing is how reliable they are I really dont know.

I installed antivirus app (see reviews: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-antivirus-Czm.aspx) when i was bored and fiddling with the phone couple of nights ago. now it tells me it's there when the screen wakes up but i cant find it in applications manager or with advanced task killer or remove it at all. it hasn't trashed my phone or anything but i would like to get rid of it after looking at it, battery life being at such a premium...

Hi, I've got an Antivirus app installed on my Galaxy S, downloaded it a couple months ago. It's not made the phone run any slower, doesn't seem to of impacted on battery life, and scans emails, all new media added via bluetooth etc. No idea on whether there are actually viruses out there yet, but no doubt there will be at some point, main reason for installing it was just to feel safe and give such a valuable phone some protection "just in case"
Hope that helps! The app I'm using is simply titled "Antivirus", has a small half yellow, half white capsule as it's icon, and links to the droid security site.

Have the AVG antivirus installed as well. No probs so far.

One thing that puzzled me, when I activate the phone from standby and before I unlock (I use a pattern to unlock it) it says:

This phone belongs to :

---

protected by Antivirus.

how do I get my name on the '---' ?

Answer is  : you go to the AVG settings, its called Lost Phone message. You can enter info for when the phone is lost and if it needs to display that or not.

This message is part of a third party application called Antivirus Free. When you power up your phone it will display: This phone belongs to: protected by antivirus You do not have the ability to disable this feature within the app, however you can add your name. 1.Go to the screen that has the AVG 'PILL' on it. 2. Select antivirus 2.Select the Menu key ( left key on the bottom) 3.Select Settings 4.Select Remote Management 5.Select Lost Message Select Text before to change or overwrite - "This phone belongs to" Select Contact Information to select a contact. Choose yourself and your contact information will display between the two current messages. Select Text after to change or overwrite "protected by antivirus" Once finished close out of the application.  Wink Wink

Indeed, I did find out last night, as you can tell if you read the last two lines in my post.  Angel
Thanks for writing it out though, it makes more sense than my sketchy text.

As for turning it off, there is an 'Activate Lost Message' toggle in the same menu. Unchecking that  turns the display of the message on the SGS display off.
I have no idea what it does vav the AVG server. Because, what I did notice since AVG was active, is that it is constantly using the internet connection. I checked my data usage in the evening and then 8 hours later , and it had accumulated with 7MB, which is quite a lot for just saying hi to its server??
Does the "Lost" service have something to do with that?
