Hi all ... title says it all i think Happy I'm becoming extremely frustrated with my Galaxy. It never has functioned well. First started on 2.1, wich was terrible. Laggy, slow, freezing an crashing. Then upgraded to 2.2, wich worked ok with the lag fix. After that i started to have more and more problems. Force closes, random crashing, lag, freezing, random rebooting, delay in a lot of things. Even typing was laggy, you'd type text and the letters would appear a few seconds later. No upgrade to 2.3 seem to arrive from Samsung ... so i read this was probably because of Singtel. I switched some code to make it no longer a Singtel branded phone. The update was available right away, so i upgraded. Gingerbread 2.3 was even worse and most annoyingly: all the previous mentioned bugs where there. Still laggy, delays in typing, crashing etc. I truly had enough at this point so i installed a custom rom: Darky Rom. This worked perfectly fine for the first week or so, then i have the same problems again ... no matter how i wipe, factory reset or format it, the bugs are always there! Appdata everything is still there. No i've come to a point where it either has to start working properly or i will really switch to something else.

I'm truly disappointed with this phone, how they dare to call it "the best Android" phone is a mystery to me ... I'm hoping someone can give me advice. I guess some help on how to truly format it would be a start?

Thanks in advance

Get a fresh new rom like xxjvq (i use it) from samfirmware.
Do a backup with titanium backup if u want.
Copy ur internal sd card to pc, n format internal sd.
Unmount external sd.
Go to recovery mode, n do a factory reset.
Reboot.
Shut down n remove battery for a minute.
Boot to download mode.
Flash downloaded rom using odin/heimdall.
Again do a factory reset.
Root using CF root.
Install ext4 manager from market.
Convert file system to ext4.
Restore backup.

(u'll need to free up space in system to convert filesystem. Do it by moving apps from systemapp to sd n move back after conversion)

First, a Galaxy S with 2.3.3 works very nicely. No lag. GPS and WiFi flawless... no crashes (mine stays on for days). Even battery life is actually not so bad.

As for a full reformat... it's in the Settings->Privacy options. Go for Factory data reset. Make sure you tell it to format also the internal USB storage. It will ask you for the phone's security password which I trust you know... If you want to be thorow, but this is not really necessary, you should also remove the microSD and format it on, say, a PC.

Before you do anything drastic, check out the last link in my signature below. Read through the suggestions, follow the steps, and see how the phone works after that.

Sorry for the late response ... thanks all for the replies. I just did a factory reset with the "backup appdata" turned off and a full format. Everything is clean right now, let's see how it works now Happy

Well .. i never got the chance to officially upgrade to 2.3.3. I'm happy though with the custom rom, everything just looks a bit smoother. So far i've had only 2 crashes requiring a reboot, where as before the phone crashed all the time.

I did notice that my SD card might be bugged ... it works fine in other devices though, but yesterday it rebooted whenever it started scanning the SD. When i removed it, it booted just fine.

My galaxy started to do random reboots and then 2 weeks ago turned off, only way to get it back on was pull battery reinsert and press power, its away getting fixed now, and should be back tomo i hope as the courtesy phone is a motorola flip with no camera, bluetooth or anythin.
Just hope it is fixed when its returned to shop

For a clean flash, I usually wipe everything in CWM, including Dalvik and Batt Stat. Never done me wrong plus wiping batt stat everytime you flash allows the new ROM better access and implementation of the battery. I think XDA is where I read that but can't be too sure...

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take advantage of having Google on your phone! Save all contacts to GMail and they never get lost, wiped, replaced etc.

Titanium Backup for apps and data. SMS Backup & Restore for messages.

Sent you a pm. I have Sgs for over a year and even 2.3.3 jvq made problems for me (randomly quitting the dialer app and message app)

Finally found a solution in Darky rom 10.2 ee, works like a charm, doesnt require reboot

I'm running the latest stable version of Darky's ROM, version 10.2.2 JVQ. To install this I first flashed (using ODin) a stock version of 2.3.4 ROM. Then flashed (also Odin) 10.2. Then using the DarkyROM Tool app, I flashed 10.2.2.

Works a treat! There are newer "unstable" versions that I have tried but v10.2.2 seems to be the best. If you're after the latest stock ROMs, SamFirmware.com or even on here will have the downloadable .zip files. The latest is 2.3.5 JVS and before that 2.3.4 JVR (thanks saszeb!).
