Well, as above! I would be getting the SGS2 as my contract allows me to upgrade my handset so I will be having both SGS and SGSII when it is launched!

Nice. But there is a rumor for a dual core 2 ghz device bring lauded from samsung.

Seeing as I just got my nexus recently I think I will wait a little.

Peace.

There is absolutely no reason what-so-ever to buy a 2ghz dual-core (rumored SGSIII). For one, the battery drain would be absurd. Secondly, it would be slower then a quad-core running at 1ghz. Lastly, it would have to be a lot thicker in order to be able to dissipate the heat generated.  HUH?

Personally, Samsung had better hop on the quad-core train after the S2 or I and most likely quite a few other people will be going to a different brand. Nvidia and Qualcomm both are looking to release quad-core smartphone chips by Christmas, this year, which means that there is no market for a phone such as was presented in those releases or rumors, whatever the case may be.

I honestly think that Samsung will be releasing a quad-core SGS III (maybe with a QLED screen). Now whether it's early in 2012 or later, I'd rather wait another 18 months (average flagship release schedule) for an additional 5X gain over dual-core and save a good $700 in the process. Now, discount everything I just said. If this SGS II sells well, and the plans are for quad-core for the SGS III, those sales will result in a better SGS III which will ultimately benefit me and everyone else who wants one  Wink Wink.

I just finished buying stuff for my SGS so I'm sticking with what I have until I can get an upgrade credit (2012). I really like my phone so I'm good for now. As it gets older I'll be more interested in flashing and experimenting.

You might want to try DamianGTO's kernel. I saw that you had OCLF on your signature which means that your phone has a loop-back EXT2 on RFS. RFS can get corrupted over time(making your phone slow again) whereas EXT4 is a lot more stable. Also, his kernel allows for overclocking and undervolting. I'm using EXT4+EXT2 loops OC to 1280mhz UV to 100mv, touch sensitivity is set to high. Here's the website; http://www.damiangto.org I'm using his FroYo kernel v1.3.3 with Doc's v9.9.5 JS8 2.2.1 and I'll be the first to tell you that this phone flies.

Also, pretty soon (matter of days maybe) the Gingerbread source code will allow for the same modifications that have been made to FroYo. However, with Gingerbread you have an optimized JIT compiler. The trade off between the two, though, is that Gingerbread requires more RAM but it makes up for this with a better autokill.

EDIT; By the way, I just purchased a Momax 2700mah battery. It's awesome, you might want to check it out.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to wait until all the official updates are done (Canada gets them a couple months after a solid release) before I start flashing. I'll want something that works with the M so I don't have to mess around with APNs (yes I'm that lazy Big Smile)

I'm just mad at Samsung for taking less than a year to announce and bring the second generation of Galaxy S, even Apple take usually more time than that. Like if they urged themselves on fixing the first one, similar to Nintendo who released the DS Lite as a brighter screen fix for the first lacking DS.

I would have waited for the SGS II before buying. I think I could have done that... maybe. Now I have regrets. 4.3 inch, RGB super amoled, and a flash, jeez, Crying sweet...

I voted for "I'll stick with the original and soon classical thing", because, like I do for everything I own, I will take care of it and cherish it until he grows older, marry himself, buys a house, make childrens, gets wise and unfashionnable, and dies with the feeling that he served the best he could and all he could.

I totally picture myself doing that, 16 gb is enough room, hummingbird ghz is enough speed, 512 mb is enough memory and Powersvgr540 enough, herm, power.

@devouringone3 - there are always new phones coming out...and they are announced WAY before they arrive on our shores. If you waited you would never get anything Big Smile We have that oddball data frequency.

@iamwill - that's nice.

Well, if you want my honest opinion, the jury's still out on that one in my case. Sure, it's one hell of a gorgeous phone wih monster specs, but I'm not really all that sure I need a dual-core beast in my pocket.

If I don't stick with my Galaxy S for another year or so (hard times, you understand), I may consider purchasing it. However, I'm half tempted to go for HTC's Sensation. It could just be that I don't really mind trading Super AMOLED in for a regular LCD (albeit a 4.3in qHD one), but what I really think I like about it is that it's got HTC Sense preinstalled. I know that I could just flash a custom ROM or something, but it's just not the same. If the audio quality on the Sensation beats that of the i9000, then I'll serisouly be considering it.

But as I said, I may have to forego purchasing a new phone this year. It's a tough call for me, though, being forced to pick between the two Happy)

P.S.
It's not in my nature to let typos slip by, but should you find any, feel free to blame my laptop for needing a break, forcing me to resort to tapping way on my sister's less than responsive netbook.

Cheers.

I'll probably just stick to the S and simply upgrade my Tab to the 9inch dual core one. Don't see what major benefit I'll get with better screen tech and dual core in a cellphone with a small screen. Might as well spend on a platform where the benefits are really clear.

Now, if my S gets broken, then I'll most probably get an SII or a really cheap S with gingerbread already installed.

Well as it stands I'm unsure. My only fear is when my SGS wears out, what will I switch to, I'm rather spoiled. There's not that much better stuff around as of yet.

It depends a lot on when they become available here is central Sask, Canada. If it takes another year and four months before they get here I'm sure I'll be tempted.

I'll need a new contract by then. Happy We'll need some nice smartphone to top the current SGS. Don't you think? Happy

Also I love all the cool things this phone will do.

I received my SII yesterday (I'm in France). Not cheap... but that's the price to pay for buying the machine before the price drops. The phone is amazing. FAST (really FAST). No lag (whatsoever). Thin. Large screen. GPS fixes in under 8 seconds almost all of the time.

Battery life still sucks a bit...

I still keep my old Galaxy S for work and now the S II as private phone. I must say that my Galaxy S is starting to look outdated now. Happy

Go for the SII as soon as you can. Big Smile

Can you tell if the battery is the same on SGS as SGS2?
