Hello people,
Only had the SII a few months. Used GingerBread for a short while but upgraded to ICS 4.0.3 as soon as available on TMobile in the UK.
I'd drained my battery over 48 hours until this afternoon.
Charged up at 6:30pm. Now 2:30am. 80% battery life left.
Phone on constant Wifi - that's with travelling from my Mums place to here too (ie searching). While on Wifi I always turn mobile data off. GPS always turned off unless I need it (like previous on my old Htc HD2 - that sucked the life out of battery big time).

Looking at the battery life in that 8 hours - Android takes up 55%, Screen 13%, Cell Standby 12%, Maps(!) 11% (! as hmmm. not used) - all other just noddy things. Wifi though reports 2%

I do notice if hammering wifi or similar with constant data or GPS - as you look at the phone the back top left get's hot - and that is when I normally see the battery life starts disappearing.

Does that help you in anyway? Although I used gingerbread for about a month - I've noticed little difference performance wise.

Read the tips from Samsung (they are in the settings). It says Wifi is consuming more than mobile data when data traffic  is low or none. On higher data usage it's the other way around.
Also, while on Wifi, mobile data is only stand-by, and you prob. need it to send MMS. So, little saving in switching it off when on Wifi. Wifi should be off when there are no acces points, because it makes the phone look for AP's, mostly in vain. And turning GPS off just prevents an app to turn it on. When not in use by an app, it's off anyway.

There's also, since Gingerbread, the built-in option to save energy. This will cause the phone to react slower in demanding apps, the more simple tasks are not affected.

What I would really appriciate, is the option to display white text on a black screen. Black on white consumes a great deal more.

Hi Thorny, I had the same thing with the top left getting warm and then it really eats the battery. The strange thing is that it gets worse when I turn wifi off, it seemed that some apps did not like to be without wifi and that Android was not able to control the apps.

But about 2 days ago there was an update witch demanded a reboot and that seems to have changed things quite a bit. I have been running betterbatterystats for some time now and the change will show in the saved info. The s2 is now much better/faster to go into deep sleep, but I will get back with more info.

BTW. I am running on a danish Telia version.

ttt: i am using the built in power save option.

Ok here is a little update:

Ablut a week ago I got the Android 4.0.4 update and everything whent back to like before updating to v. 4.0.3. Now battery time is between 20 and 40 houres on a full charge - just like good old days.

I don't know what they did wrong with the 4.0.3, but something was really wrong! I have not changed anything between the updates, I use the phone in the same way with same apps so only difference is the 4.0.4 update.

What i do see is that the phone goes into sleep much faster than before and stayes in deep sleep, witch was not the case before. I have been running different stats on the phone so I have quite a bit of data showing the major difference in battery time.

The irony is that my S3 is in the mail on it's way to me... Now I don't know if that was a good or a not so good move. There was a lot of impruvements in the 4.0.4, grafics is nicer and the screen also became more responsive (I also had a small problem in the outer left side on the screen after updating to 4.0.3, it simply was not that responsive - all fixed with the 4.0.4).

Ever since updating my SII phone to version 4.0.3 the phone is next to useless. ... cycling will no doubt have reduced the life of the battery considerably. .... I just asked for the firmware to be downgraded back to 2.3 ... Please explain to me how water damage suddenly makes the "Android OS" use up over 90% of the battery.
