Good evening,

I am a little bit confused on the latest OFFICIAL software release for Samsung Galaxy S.
I am living in Hong Kong and have Gingerbread 2.3.3 with Kernel 2.6.35.7 - Gingerbread.zvjv6

No updates since month either through Kies (2.1.0.11112_41) or "software update" menu in the phone settings. I have a stand alone phone not bought through a telecom carrier.
It seems some people has 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 in Europe.
Any other members living in Hong Kong?

What is the latest OFFICIAL software release for Samsung Galaxy S?
What about Ice Cream Sandwich for Samsung Galaxy S?

Thanks

ICS isn't official from Samsung yet, they're only ports. If you're looking for an ICS ROM, it might be worth waiting. The latest official from Samsung out sammobile.com (or .co.uk) is JVT. There are some JVZ ROMs available. It's up to you. Stock JVT or stock JVZ or look into XDA for custom ROMs.

To sum up:
Official ROM - JVT
Unofficial ROM - JVZ
Or custom ROM

I think I saw somewhere a 2.3.7. I doubt its "official" and I think it was CyanogenMOD...

CyanogenMod has nothing to do with Samsung. Yes, it's 2.3.7.
I'm on 4.0.3 (ICS).

There are two ICS: Onecosmic's one and Teamhacksung's ICS.
It's worth trying both. Search on XDA!

Yeah I have seen them online but I'm holding out for a stable version where everything works correctly.

Plus, I'd like to initially get a feel of a stock ICS (if we ever get one) before going for a custom one.

Joel and the team at Darky's ROM (apparently) have the Samsung ICS codes, I also wanna see what they do it. Darky's has been my most favoured of custom ROMs.

Both of the ICSs are perfect for daily use.

Hmmm, what version of ICs you're on? On xda the last build 11 still has a lot of bugs

Known Issues

    720p Video Recording laggy
Camera does not support scene modes
    FM Radio does not work.
Phone unnecessarily gets data connection on device encryption password enter screen.
    Cannot format external SD *
Sometimes duplicates listing of external SD files in the media database
Android OS battery usage display higher than normal.
Sometime wrong SMS selected for forwarding
Format internal instead of external SD when requested to format ext. SD
Transfer speed slows down when screen off
Notification power widget uncustomizable (the widget made it into the repo, but the CMSetting app didn't.) (temporary alpha build of CMSettings)
GPS does not work (regression in BUILD 11) (fix)
    Off-charging does not show progress
/datadata cache not cleared when space is low
    Gallery face glow FCs
    Compass broken in certain apps

I'll wait some more, I'm sure in 2 months will be ok for everyday use.

I'm on this ICS and have been using it for 1 month for daily use.
Have you tried it? I think no. Try it and then judge! You are sure? In what? I use this ICS in everywhere.

We are all here to exchange information. I think you're taking it a bit personal, I did not make any judgements, just stated what xda consider as bugs in the last build 11 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363593). Like Radio, GPS not working. If you do not use maps or navi, GPS is not a big deal but for me is important. Anyway, happy new year everyone!
