Can I just buy the phone now and do a software update later? If there are any hardware changes between the 2.1 and 2.2, I would wait till the 2.2 with updated hardware is released. Ok, Im sorry I just re-read something and yes you are correct you will recieve it over Kies and the uS verients of the Galaxy S phone will be receiving it OTA. Simple mistake, but a mistake none the less so I am sorry I had my info slightly wrong.
