More of changes you expected, get a brand-new Kies!

Download. Make sure to get the uninstaller to uninstall the older version first.

Kies simply says 'your phone isn't supported.' I looked through the list of supported phones, Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 isn't on that list.

Which is the OFFICIAL software to manage this phone then?

Which Version of Android are you running at the moment?

Froyo or Eclairs. and can you give the Build Version.

Peace.

Sure, ill tell you everything about my cell:

Model: GT-I9000
Firmware Version: 2.2
Baseband version: I9000XXJPP
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9  root@sep-35 #1
Build number: FROYO.XXJPO

When I connect to Kies, it tells me theres a new firmware available for my set:

Model Name: GT-I9000
Current Version: PDA:JPO / PHONE:JPP / CSC:JPO
Latest Version: PDA:JPY / PHONE:JPY / CSC:JPY

But when I click Update, it tries to download some stuff from the internet and then Kies crashes before it can update my phone. Im a noobie with androids. Dunno what to do here  Undecided

Yes. Just like the first post in this thread suggests. I uninstalled Kies from Control Panel. Then I also downloaded and ran the samsung's Uninstall Program (available along with Kies link at samsung's website).

Are you all able to update your firmware with Kies? Is my cellphone already rooted .. can you tell from the info I've given in my last msg?

For some reasons, I cannot see the option by which I can upgrade by firmware Over The Air. I see in YouTube videos that you have to go to Settings>About. Then the first option is to update your firmware, being connected to WiFi. I am connected to WiFi. My first option is "Status".. it only shows status.. no option for updating firmware over the air.. Kies also not working. darn it !  Angry

I resolved my problems. I uninstalled Kies 2.0 and went back to 1.5.3 revision 102, and upgraded my firmware to 2.2.1 without any hassle at all. Now I'm also getting that option to upgrade over the air.

Where can I find the previous version of Kies?  I have ver 2.0 from the Samsung website.  I try to upgrade my Galaxy S with it and the process craps out during the firmware download process.  I am on satellite internet, is that the issue (the lag is something terrible, close to dial-up unfortunately)?

I called Samsung and they don't offer Kies for the Mac (nor can they say they ever will).  We have one poor ol' Windows machine in this house and a half dozen Macs.  I'd rather not have to deal with Windows and am willing to upgrade manually via the Mac.

Any suggestions?

You may want to look into Heimdall.

There is a guide in Hacking section.

I have to say Bell actually did the Kies update well. There's a link right on the support page so you don't have to go to the Samsung Mobile site. The newest version includes and uninstaller and everything went smoothly (much to my surprise). I see now it supports podcasts.

In the Kies screenshots and tutorial video, it shows the "Books" or ebooks option on the left panel. But when I connect Galaxy S, the books option is not available.
