Hi  Angel

I`ve finally got my update to Froyo via Kies.  Cool
Do I need to make Hard Reset after it?

Thanks

Why Soft Reset After Upgrade is Recommended!

Is it branded or unbranded?

What do you mean under "branded"? Phone? Or 2.2?

Branded as in Carrier Branded with Carrier bloatware. (Carrier as in the Cell Phone Operator, ie Verizon, ATT, Bell, Zain, etc).

Unbranded as in, direct from samsung to Retailer without any modifications done by the countries carrier or government.

2.2 is the ROM version or otherwise known as Froyo
The default version the phone comes with to the best of my knowledge is 2.1 or otherwise known as Eclairs.

The new version 2.3 is also known as Gingerbread.

If you didn't notice it is in alphabetic order the next version 2.4 or 3.0 will be starting with H

Other Popular names

Windows XP - Whistler
Windows Vista - Longhorn
LinuxMint 10 - Julia
LinuxMint 9 - Isadora
Ubuntu 9.04 - Jaunty Jackalope
Ubuntu 10.10 - Maverick Meerkat

Alot more put I guess you get the gist.

Peace.

In such case I`ve got UNbranded Galaxy S. Straight from Sams.. )

As well, does anyone know.. In v. 2.1 I did have a Russian keyboard, but after update tot 2.2, I've got Russian as a localization, though no Russian keyboead is supplied  Crying

P.S. I know that I can install additional keyboard with Russian. Just being curious  Angel

I`ve read (don't remember the source) that Samsung promised to provide updates for all regions in late December or early January.
So don't panic  Angel

P.S. Don't get frustrated with absence of 2.2. It`s a bit auicked, but IMHO looks almost the same.
At least, I haven't noticed any drastical changes  Cool

I`ve "touched" both devices, like Galaxy more.  Cool

Don't get frustrated because of 2.2. U can always use backdoor, and install e.g. via Odin  Eyes Rolling

Is that what they mean by rooting phone?

Rooting - is more like "giving additional privileges and rights".
And Odin - is a framework for upgrading to different version, mostly used for testing puposes. Generally speaking, kind of internal tool, rather the one provided to customer (Customers usually get the "one button-click" tool for upgrading)

Hey guys, I'm from Latvia,
I just called to Samsung Latvia, in order to ask about 2.2 update- I was told that It will arrive 24.12.10, so If somebody is in my area- just wait, and get official Kies update.

To everybody else- just call your Local samsung, and ask about availability Happy
Regards, Andrew

Heyy Guys ..

I have already checked with my local Samsung techies ... the thing is that the official launch has been done on 11th November 2010 ... but still nothing is available thru KIES.

Plus, when I call them all they have to say is please visit the service center and they will do it manually.

Also, I have a small but BIG concern .. Samsung Galaxy should have 512 RAM ... but only 326 is visible .. Crying ... where is rest oy my RAM !!
