Hi

Please can anyone tell me how I can update my I9000 to the latest version of Android.

It currently runs Eclair with an update.

I have read heaps of stuff about Kies and I agree its useless! You have to use 3rd party apps to backup your phone!

By using the Kies reg patcher 1.8, I changed the product code to VNZ (vodafine NZ) and can now get Kies to tell me there's an update available, but when I try to update the phone I get a message saying it cannot be updated. I then tried changing it to TMU as this is what Kies tells me the existing firmware in the phone is. But I still cannot update the phone.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

Eugene

If you are upto an alternative method Please Read This.

I know about the Kies reg Patcher but I believe for best results you need to try XEU, apart from that, there have been reports where the same phone when connected to one computer said no update available while when tested on a different computer showed a Update is available and the phone proceeded to Update.

Peace.

Hi

I am not too sure.... I am in New Zealand.

What would you recommend? UK versions?

Here's all the details I think you need

Model GT-19000
FW Ver 2.1 update1
Baseband I9000BOJF1
Kernel 2.6.29 root @SE-S603 #2
Build elcair

When I connect to Kies it tells me

PDA:JF5 / PHONE:JF1 / CSC:OZS (TMU)

$#1234# gives me

PDA ZSJF5
Phone BOJF1
CSC CTMUJG1

Ok You wish to flash to Gingerbread or Froyo?

It may be a good idea to root your device and backup with titanium back meanwhile.

Peace.

Hi

I noticed that when I run Titanium that it says that Root Access is OK does this mean I don't have to root the phone?

Ya my SGS is now running 2.3.4!

Great so much better than before.

One more thing that may be good to add to your guide is how to get into download mode. My SGS didn't work with the Vol Down / Home / Power method and I had to download ADB SDK and use the command line prompt. from there is was easy...

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

You should read more and use the "search" field.
1. Download Mode using the 3 button combo.
2. One of the golden rules is to be able to get to download mode using the 3BC.
ADB is working fine, but what happens if the flashing goes wrong, if you fail to flashing?
You will unplug the cable and the phone is off. ADB won't help you.

I tried several times and read many forums. But it seems that my SGS wouldn't go into download mode by using the 3 buttons, so I had no choice but to use ADB.

Anyway all sorted so I am happy
