Hi all

I have simunlocked my Galaxy S TMN carrier phone. Recently i also rooted my phone The oneclick way. The specs of phone is
Firmware version: 2.2
Base Band        :I9000XXJPP
Kernel              :2.6.32.9
                       root@se-s603#1
Build no.           :FROYO.XWJPF

Now i saw on the net i can manually update with ODIN to 2.3.3. Baseband Ver. : I9000DDJV4
                                                                                     Kernel Ver.      :2.6.35.7-I9000DDJV6-CL198883
                                                                                                            root@SE-S605#2
                                                                                        Build No.       :GINGERBREAD:DDJV6
Is this the new stock version available through Kies? Will i be able to do the update if my phone is rooted or has a stock TMN carrier version of froyo? Does this build have any defects? like shortened battery live? Or does anyone know when portugal will get the update through Kies? Must i wait for the official update through kies? Sorry a lot of questions, but want to make sure i do the best thing.

Thanx

1. You are on Froyo_v2.2.
2. Your phone is unlocked. (check it: pls dial *#7465625#)
   What's the result?
3. Can you use the 3 button combo (volume up/down+home+power)?

Install-guide for Gingerbread_v2.3.3 (XXJVO) hier.
Install-guide for CyanogenMod_7 (based on Android_v2.3.4) hier.
The CM7 has nothing to do with Samsung ROMs.
Pls. read the guides and don't hesitate to ask if you don't understand something.

Hi Saszseb

Yes it says Network Lock     (off)
               Network Subset (off)
                Sp Lock           (off)
                CP Lock           (off)
How do i test for the 3 button combo. do i turn off my phone and hold down volume down, home button and power button till it starts and when it says recovery mode or downloading mode it works and i just turn it off again. and turn it on normally again for the test.? Thanx again for your patience and help.

Turn off your phone and wait 1 min.
1. to get to download mode:
press and hold volume down, then press and hold home and press and hold power.
when the yellow digging android appears, release all the 3 button.
Turn off your phone by removal the battery.
2. to get to recovery mode:
press and hold volume up, then press and hold home and press and hold power.
When the white Samsung logo appears, release all the 3 button.
    Then select "reboot system now".
Give me a feedback how it went.

Hi Saszseb

Thanx , both three button combos worked. I read through bothe the gingerbread and android 2.3.4, and i think i will go with gingerbread 2.3.3, the other one looks a bit complicated. One question i saw on some web pages when you used oden some boxes must be ticked of and some not. In the guide you supplied they dont say anything. can you help with that. thanx

When you tick "Re-Partition" you should use the PIT file.
When you untick "Re-Partition" you won't use the PIT file.
If there is only one tar file to flash using Odin, you musn't use the PIT file and musn't tick "Re-Partition".
"Re-partition is not a must, use it only if you need to change partition sizes on the device, but in most cases you will not need to repartition at all."

Hi Saszseb

1)Thanx ,  i wont tick of the re-partition, and flash lock. So there is no need for pit files. Then next i only tick PDA, and leave bootloader, csc and phone open. is that correct?

2)I made a backup of all the files and system files with titanium backup on my phone build in memorycard. If anything goes wrong will i be able to reload my old froyo with just that?

Thanx again for your patience and help

1. yes. (bootloader and EFS clear not selected).
2. I think,no. You should make a nandroid backup to save the ROM.
If something goes wrong fatal, you may save the ROM via nandroid restore in case, you will be able to go to recovery mode using the 3 button combo.
