Hello guys,

My GPS locks very vast when i use Google Maps after updating my firmware from 2.1 to 2.2
But the thing is that my position is not correct, it shows my position 2 of 3 streets a way from my current position.
How can that be? Somebody knows? Is this a bug?

Thanks

André

That is the Cell Tower location.

From there the GPS have an Idea of which Satellite is closer to help get a GPS lock.

This is called A-GPS or Assisted GPS.

GPS on the Galaxy S doesn't work. It's never worked and will probably never work. All the fixes I've seen on the internet rely on cell phone tower triangulation. The actual GPS fixes have no function at all as they always tell you to turn on the "use wireless setting" setting. If you don't you don't get a location -at all! If you use both "use wireless setting" and "use GPS satellites" together, you get exactly the same location error as you get if you use "use wireless setting" alone. Ergo, the GPS isn't doing a damn thing.

GPS DOES NOT NEED TO BE ASSISTED BY CELLULAR NETWORKS - that's just not how they work. I used to design systems that relied on GPS years before 3G systems ever exited. They would work in the middle of the ocean. I suspect Samsung just don't know anything about GPS. It's the only way to explain away this disastrous system.

I've never had a big problem with gps - uses phone triangulation to lock on first signal, but gps picks up in less than a minute outdoors or in the car. It need the last 2.1 update though.

Still waiting for 2.2 from Orange mind...

Mine works fine with or without a-gps. Within a minute I have 10m accuracy near a window or outside. Pretty well always have. My last Samsung was the same. Faster lock with JL2

I compared my Galaxy S to my friends Iphone 4. We both started at the same time.

I got a Network lock first, then I got the GPS lock a few seconds later. We were indoors under aluminum roofing.

I was amazed that it actually got a lock in that area. I was already scrolling through the map before he got a lock.

We were both using Google Maps.

The only difference was that he is able to use navi and I am not. Sad

This is the Network lock, make sure GPS is enabled when you are trying to get a GPS lock.

Peace.
