Firmware (Android 2.3.5) XWJVU for Samsung Galaxy S I9000 - 29.09.2011

1.Extract I9000XWJVU
2.Open ODIN. (And close Kies, if you have it open. It is important to have ODIN open BEFORE connection the phone via USB!)
3.Select the PDA in Odin.
4.Turn the phone into the download mode by pressing and holding VolumeDown+Home+Power.
5.Connect your phone with your computer and wait until the drivers are installed.
6.When the drivers are installed, click Start.
7.The phone will be flashed and once it’s finished, it will boot up. (Do NOT disconnect the usb-cable, remove the battery or otherwise interrupt this process!)
8.You have successfully flashed your phone.

Newbie question here. What happens if my phone is already rooted on 2.3.3 and I upgrade to 2.3.5? Will I still have root? I also realise that there's quite a few different kernels out there. How will I know the existing kernel will work with the upgrade? Any pointers most welcome. Please feel free to point me to the correct thread too if I'm posting incorrectly. Cheers!!

If you do update to xxjvu then yes you will lose root (as far as I know there is no root access)
If you do flash new xxjvu then post comments/reviews

Have you not updated to 2.3.5 any reasons why you prefer older gingerbread version..??
I must admit stock xxjvt + semaphore kernel my phone is stable fast & music purposes a beast (semaphore features)..

I'm 2.3.3 as mentioned and I'm not upgrading unless I'm able to have root access. Current kernel has been a lot more stable for me versus the stock stuff. Also I'd like to be able to delete all unnecessary crap from Samsung and telco =)

As far as I know all firmwares upto 2.3.5 xxjvt have root access (currently new xxjvu does not have root)
So yes you can update to 2.3.5 & still be rooted..!!
You really need to try new firmware much stable & faster [xxjvt has the scrolling screens rotate & blue glow effect].. :-)
Also most custom roms & many kernels are based around 2.3.5
Anyways you use what you like & comfortable with..!!

Thanks much for clarifying. Sounds like an interesting option now that I can have root  Sticking out tongue . In any case, can someone point out a good guide for updating a rooted phone? Or is it just the same process either way?

Same process to root.. Just make sure you getting correct download file for root (for correct firmware xxjvt etc etc)
If im correct each firmware will have its own root tar file, which obviously can be used via odin..

HIya... saszseb

Hey - Ice cream looks really good.
How do you like it?
Is it just the launcher or is this a port of 4.0?
Is it fast?
Is it easy to flash from Darky's?

I test ICS v4.0.1_alpha. This is a ROM (of course). It's been not for daily use yet. Everyday I flash it for some time to use it. I'm on cyanogenMod 7 nowadays and don't want to go back to a Samsung ROM. I switch between CM7, MIUI and ICS.
