BUT I had problems with the screen, so think twice before making this specific upgrade... Let us know if you decide to upgrade and if you have any problems. Once the new firmware is installed, the backups are then re-installed. If you flash via Odin or Heimdell, as saszseb says: flashing wipes data. You will have to back up your own stuff. I've stopped using Kies because after 2.3.2 or 2.3.3, the phone stopped connecting and so gave up with it. Best Screen Protector ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take advantage of having Google on your phone! Save all contacts to GMail and they never get lost, wiped, replaced etc. Titanium Backup for apps and data. SMS Backup & Restore for messages.
