Samsung has seemingly confirmed Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update for Galaxy S (I9000). According to an attendee at Samsung’s event in Frankfurt, Samsung said the Gingerbread update for Galaxy S (I9000) is expected in March.

It is unclear which countries will receive the OS upgrade first but there’s a fair chance Italy won’t be on the initial list considering they just announced to release Android 2.2.1 in March.

Well, I'll be impatiently waiting for it then. According to another post I've read here (I think it was called something like What is Rooting, and Why you should or shouldn't care?, but I've read so many that I'm no longer sure), the file format is changed from RFS to EXT2 or EXT4 and this fixes lag issues. Hope that's true and that Gingerbread will soon be made available to us SGS users!

Cheers!

Yes Gingerbread is Based on Ext4.

But you never know with samsung.

Plus I have heard that 2.4 will be renamed to gingerbread so I don't know if SGS will get 2.4 instead of 2.3. Hope you get 2.4 because 2.3 is buggy as hell.

2.3.3 just got released hope it fixes some issues I am having like Random Restarts while on a call.

Peace.

Android Central is saying that someone had a look at the leaked build and it seems to be RFS. Crying

2.3.2 beta is out on samfirmware.com and they have ditched the horrible file system for a more stable lynx system the beta still has touchwize 3 on but on the official XEU version it will have touchwize 4 and the four Hubs, On Branded phones these will link to the branded webpages not Samsung's own, Like i said it is only a beta version there are the bare apps on, as well it is for there software house in Germany to develop the apps and touchwize. But the core of the Rom does work but on XDA pages there are reports of hot phones on the back

Are you sure about the file system? Android Central is reporting that it still uses RFS and NOT ext4.

This is what I was afraid of. Samsung seems to have taken it upon themselves to be as IPhone like as possible.

What they don't understand is that the IPhone doesn't run Android, if it ran Android we would be an IPhone, we sure are not looking for an IPhone look alike. That just feels cheap.

Sammy need to ditch RFS fo real. Although RFS is cool in one manner, you get to mess around with Voodoo.

Think if Sammy had Ext4 on Froyo, half the people who rooted their phone to get better speed would not learn to tinker with their phone.

So maybe RFS is good?  HUH?

Peace.

This has been answered on XDA developers it is Ext4 that is what is being tested and that is why it has been sent to the developers for testing. Some of the rom developers have said that it is so fast that a lag fix is not needed.

Do you have a link to that discussion I'd be interested in having a look.

The only thing I can find is the below:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974230

Without reading the whole thing I notice on the first post it says:

"The Kernel just supports ext4, out of the box it's still rfs."

Admittedly I don't know a lot about this stuff - just trying to learn as I go.

Yes that is the right page!!!!
last time i looked it was 80 plus pages, yes the kernal thing is right the new file system is the main thing there testing ,it seams more like a lynx system i have tested it on a phone i am fixing and it is very bare bones it feels fast but more like 2.2 but with a better file system but i did notice it was allot warmer  side buy side with mine not impressed i put 2.2.1 on and it was fine doing the same tasks.
i think as the weeks go on we shall see another rom
