Hi!

I have a stock Galaxy S (i.e. not an operator branded). And this morning Kies offered to update the firmware. I did.

I am now running PDA:JQ3 / PHONE:JPY / CSC:JS2 (DBT)

When I display About Phone, I get "Firmware version : 2.2.1".

Significant improvements include :

1) New OTA Software Updates! Available from Settings->About Phone (first line in there). Have to register to Samsung account... I have yet to see that in action but I'm impatient. Maybe for 2.3? Happy

2) No more lag! Yes! NO MORE LAG! The phone is FINALLY behaving like it should! Yeah! And no need to root. This is the official 2.2.1 update from Kies!

Now... the bad news.

I got mine in France. Other countries will get theirs when they do.

Tonight (I will post here) or tomorrow I will check a friend's SFR-branded Galaxy S if it gets the update as well... Note that for updating from 2.1 to 2.2, SFR was a few months late... so I'm not too hopeful on this one.

My I love my phone now! Happy

Cheers,
Gilles.

I'll have my phone connected tonight (AEST), and will also post if it was available to me.

Plugged my phone in last night and unfortunately it did not get the update, it just simply said that the phone was up to date. I don't have an exact version with me at the moment as I forgot my cable ><

I'm not too worried though, i'm not really having any major issues with it, but I will update this forum if I do get the option in Kies =)

One little caveat for 2.2.1 update... Before I had a setting in

Settings->Applications->Development

where I could tell the device to keep display on while charging... this was great to keep things like Google Maps on in the car while driving despite the fact that Google Maps doesn't have a "prevent sleep" setting. Other apps benefited from that as well.

Now this option has disappeared.

Anybody know how to tell the device to NOT go to sleep while on charger, with firmware 2.2.1?

Cheers,
Gilles
