I guess you fall in the US category, so you should get the newest US Firmware
namely I9000DTJP5

- First check your firmware *#1234#
- Check Simlock and Network lock is OFF *#7465625#
- Make a hard reset after your flash code: *2767*3855# (for safety)
- You need Odin to flash this phone and also need the PIT file.

ODIN + PIT - Download

2.1 = Eclair
2.2 = Froyo

All CSC Download

Hai,

I already install both software..but which odin I need to use (Odin3 v1.0 , 1.3 or 1.7 ?)
And what the next step...  Smile

I am in the opposite boat from you.

I bought the arabic phone and Flashed it to UK version 2.2.1.

The device is essentially the same hardware. The difference is in the software.

Now for your question will it brick your phone? yes it is very possible, what are the chances very very small.

I will not say it is risk free, what I will say is do it at your own risk.

If you read the forum you will see 2 or 3 posts about people bricking their phone. Now this is from the people who actually brick their phone.

Then count the number of people who claim success in Flashing there are countless. Now consider how many people share their stories on this forum.

You will probably come to a 95% success rate in flashing.

If you are worried about hardware don't be unless you bought the device from the States or Canada, you have nothing to worry about.

Hope I helped

Peace.

Thanks IronSingh For the quick reply, i thought by flashing a different firmware the chances are 100% of bricking the phone, so basically u bought the phone from q8 and using it in UK with europe firmware froyo 2.2.1?
