Hi, i want to root my galaxy s,  but am a bit perplexed as to what route to go?

I have recovery mode, so no probs there, Happy

But why are there so many varients of roms?

All i want to do is take my stock phone and root it, i dont want fred or burts custom xyz rom


like wise with the lagfix options? which one, are they all the same?  why are there loads of varients

which one works with my phone

any help would be appreciated

There are lots of different roms because samsung has many different carriers/regions to support and each of these has their own particular requirements, which means little tweaks here and there to Android's base rom.

If you just want to root your phone then it doesn't matter what firmware you have. I personally used One Click root, you can search about it here in the forums as others have used it as well.

As for lagfix, you have to check what firmware you have installed on your stock system since there are a lot of firmwares that come stock with samsung so you have to pick the lagfix that works best for yours. So far there's voodoo lagfix, one click lag fix, and a couple of others. Again, you have to research as to which one is appropriate for your firmware.
