Ok, im going to take the plunge.

Ive downloaded:

Z4Root 1.3.0.apk
OCLF

Do i just install them on the phone, run z4root, and when its finished doing its thing, run OCLF?

I watched a z4root guide on youtube and he goes on about Superuser. do i needthat to root and lagfix?

Thanks.

EDIT:

phone info is Froyo 2.2.1, build FROYO.XXJPY, is z4root and OCLF ok for that?
sorry about all the nooby questions.

Much appreciated. I went into the market to download the OCLF by RyanZA but there are two versions. One free and the other paid. Which should I get?

BTW, have you tried the New rom by Darky on XDA? Is it better?

The Paid version is you want support the developer.

I can't comment on custom ROMs, As this is my main phone, I don't have the time for the possible downtime from experimenting with the ROMs, maybe later or when I get another Phone as main. But as it is I don't have the time for a possible downtime.

ok. How do i know that the phone is  rooted and that lagfix is installed?

If you are rooted you will get an App named Superuser with a Android Pirate Flag Icon in your App list.

as for lagfix, you should notice the speed increase.

Please,

Everyone is born noob, and everyone is noob at something. I don't know how to drive a Truck so I am a noob also, and I am not the most learned person in the world, but what I do know I will willingly share. You shouldn't be sorry about for trying to learn something, hell it's your right to learn as much as you can about everything, it is the hallmark of humankind.

Hmm, the JPY build may be resistant to Z4root, try it and let me know so you can teach me something new as well.   Big Grin

Make sure you follow the instructions as said before though.

Have USB debug On, and plug it into the PC, and click Perm Root.

Z4root will install Superuser, that's it's job. Superuser is the Root access that you need to change system files.

Then Run OCLF. The menu is very self explanatory, The Red Icons are disabled either because they need a prerequisite or because they are already enabled.
All you need is Install Ext Tools and Enable Lagfix.

I don't remember the wordings but it should be very close.

Hope I answered your questions.

Peace.

Was it easy to install? How was the installation process? Smooth? I was considering trying it but again, I am person who likes proper clear instructions. The instructions looks like it is all over the place.

I know what you mean. I don't like to do stuff where I'm going to take a chance and brick the phone. One one hand, phone bricked and no one can tell what you did. OTOH check, uncheck, 3 button restart. All of these things sound like magic. I've rooted using SuperOneClick but not sure what else I'm going to do  Eyes Rolling

Charles I will be making a new post for the how-to.

Peace.

I just read your post and I am very delighted. BTW, if it feels like 2.2.1 ( I only have 2.2) is it worth the upgrade, although I have already installed z4root and OCLF?

Fair enough it's about your comfort Level.

If you want to use a Sure Fire Way please look up SuperOneClick on XDA.

Please let me know how it went.

Peace.
