So I have Rooted + apply LagFix to my SGS, but do I need to:

1) Unroot my SGS whenever I wanted to update to new firmware or update to Froyo?
2) What is the correct steps to unroot? Should it be:
HUH? eg, 1st step = uninstall BusyBox, 2nd step = remove EXT2 Tools,
          3rd step = apply 'Undo LagFix' 4th step = etc ... ???

Need the info as I wouldn't want to mess-up the unroot procedure and brick my SGS.  Crying

No, as long as you still have the default rom on the phone you will still recive OTA updates despite if it is rooted or not.

thanks for the info..

by the way, how do we actually know that we have 100% un-root our SGS?
I did un-root to my SGS, but under Settings > About Phone > Kernel Version =    2.6.29
                                                                                                     root@SE-S604 #2

Why does it still shows "root@SE-S604 #2" below my kernel version?

I did not only un-root, but after un-root, I also did the hard reset (Factory Data Reset) as well.

If I may suggest a way to make sure you unrooted it: search im the market for "one click lag fix", download and install it, use that to unroot your phone.

hi vamp6x6x6x,

that is what i did, but it still shows    2.6.29            under my SGS kernel version.
                                             root@SE-S604 #2

and I thought by hard reset (Factory Data Reset), it will clear every data and installation files in my SGS (including root files / programs), and by doing so, it will reset my SGS to original state (a.k.a when I first open the box).

sigh... so what does this mean? does it means that the un-root process didn't run 100% cleanly?

and how do we actually reset our SGS back to original state (factory default)? I mean, really..really..really reset back to factory default.

I really would like to reset my SGS back to factory default and starts with a 'clean' phone.

@ AcNem,

Do you still remember what's your original version? (I can't remember mine  Sticking out tongue ), but I've seen 2 display sets at a SSC and they're both the same as what you have, before I rooted one of it  Big Smile

I really can't remember.. LOL ...

Will Samsung void our warranty if they found out that we root our SGS, even we're claiming for hardware defect?

If Kernel Version showing      2.6.29           , Isn't it telling our SGS is rooted?

Many are saying it'll void the warranty, but I don't know.

I'm able to update a new firmware, via Kies, with a rooted device during the last released.

Are you, by any chance, near a SSC or shop with display sets?

To: All members,

Any members here having un-rooted Asian units can confirm on the version? Please.  Big Grin

@ acem, i've the same kernel version 2.6.29 root@SE-S604 #2 even though I did not root my phone. i happened to find this online though... hope this helps. (:

to see is you are "rooted" download or use terminal app
At the $ prompt type su <enter>
should return a prompt now of
#
now enter cd /data/app-private
if you can do all that then you are rooted"

Thanks sin_way, for telling us your version  Happy

I think the "terminal app" you mentioned is the Android SDK.

So AcNem, now we know the original version number is the same rooted or not  Big Smile

Thanks to everybody.
