From what I have been reading you can't root a phone with 3e recovery. Is this true? If so will there be a work around available ? I had mine rooted with 2.1 and now that I have 2.2  I can't root it.

Try one click root or super one click root. Its a pc based rooting procedure.

You CAN root a phone with 3e recovery.

Use z4root (version 1.3.0) by RyanZA. It is .apk and you just copy it into your phone and run it from within the phone.

I have Froyo (JPO) and I am with 3e recovery. It worked like a charm for me.

my spouses SGS has a recovery 3e....
was updated from 2.1 to 2.2. and then used SuperOneClick Root.
Phone rooted without problems....and OCLF installed immediately after that.
my only prpblem is getting ClockWork Mod to work...
seem to be only able to boot into the stock Recovery 3e, rather than CWM recovery... Sad

To get ClockWordMod working you need to either do this or this.

If you have question you can relay them here or there.

I have worked with CF-Root. You may like to see this, it was written to do a step by step to get a Custom Rom which involves Restoring to 2e Bootloader to get clockworkMod working on a Froyo. Tested on JPU.

i used this too - phone is rooted and superuser is there but performance both before and after was identical. downloaded 'oclf' and still no performance boost.

i have no idea how people get such high benchmarks

my benchmark shows just above the normal galaxy s around 967

AAaah, great stuff IronSingh! Thanks! Backup is running as we speak!

By the way, you don't happen to know of a ROM for the Vibrant (T-Mobile SGS) with Euro (or all) UI-locales ?

Cheers

As far as I know, Rooting your SGS will not improve Quadrant scores.

You need to use Lagfix to improve this.

Now I am using Darky's 7.6 ROM which has Voodoo Lagfix and I am very happy with it.

Lisa, I think you are using the bloated Operator Firmware.

If you want more out of your phone you need to flash the official Samsung Firmware.

Also have a look here.

Please understand that flashing firmware carries an inherent risk as to the way ROM works on the device. Although the risk is very low and nowhere near where it was when the technology was introduced, it is still there.

I believe you can add them to your current ROM.

Let me fetch you the link.

If you are interested in installing Darky's Rom which I can vouch for, since it uses Speed Mod and Voodoo since 9.0, being snappy.

I had written a guide on the install the method is very much the same.

Could you tell me which Locale you are explicitly looking for?

As far as I can see it is possible to add keyboards not sure about a whole ROM aligned to the language, but I would assume the Vibrant ROM should have some of the languages by default

Peace.

I'm looking for Swedish and Romanian. It would be interesting to learn how to pull those from a live phone, or another ROM, and push them to either a ROM or the phone. I'm a java developer, just starting out with Android, and a linux power user, so I could probably manage with a bit of instruction.

OK doesn't look very promising. As far as I can tell, you would need to recompile the original code which is in C or C++, I haven't looked at the code, but I would assume that it will be a library there. and recompiling the base code would be a pain as it will not run as is on your phone, you would need to code it.

I guess you could use Cyanogen's Code as he has worked up from Base code to get it to work on The Galaxy S. Actually I think it is there by default.

Peace.
