Hi,
Previously I used Froyo and rooted it with Z4root and applied lag fix. I was quite happy and I got benchmark around 1800sh. When official gingerbread update is available, I unroot the phone and upgraded to gingerbread via Kies.
Below is my current version:
Firmware ver : 2.3.3
Baseband ver : I9000XXJVQ

After the upgrade the benchmark score is about 954 Crying . I also found the phone is slower and when I play few games (particularly Mycountry (like sim city)), it often hang and restart by itself. I only can play for 1-2 minutes. But if I run memory optimizer to kill few running apps, then I can play the game bit longer.

I also try to root using gingerbreak (I think this is the easiest for a dummy like me), but nothing happen, it displays rooting in progress and takes more than 20 mins ( I have tried 3 times).

Does anyone know how to solve this? I would like to root (easy way) and improve my phone performance, at least back like when I was on Froyo.
Thank you

Irawan

The following link takes you to a page that tells you how to install Speedmod Kernel using Odin. It also contains links to download the kernel and odin.

http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-galaxy-s-how-to-install.html

Once you have installed you need to root your phone and install the Ext4 File system to fix the lag issue, using the ClockWork Mod Recovery (CWM).

1. Shut down phone
2. Start up in recovery mode (Vol+ & Home & Power Buttons) you will notice it is a new recovery mode (CWM)
3. Select advanced SpeedMod features > BOOT / Install Superuser > Simple: install busybox+su

This will root the phone, after it has complete go back to the Advanced Menu

4. Select Convert filesystem to EXT4 > Yes

This will take a few minutes to complete as it backs up the phone data before creating the filesystem and restores.

I have just finished installing this on my own Galaxy. Beforehand the Quadrant test was scoring around 960, afterwards, I have had a variety of scores from 920 up to 1440.

Please ensure you read all instructions carefully before carrying this out. Be aware this will likely void your warranty, and you do this entirely at your own risk.

If i've been of help, please give some karma....if i haven't.....oops! Wink Wink

Do you need Quadrant score more than 4000? Flash Tornado kernel!
