After the phone is rooted and fixed the lag. Can I still update the firmwire through Kies?
@mitasol : how was your flash / upgrade going?

It is imperative to unlagfix your phone before attempting to update thru kies. Root will be lost in the update but you do not need to unroot

Hi IronSingh,
How to unlagfix the phone? shall I go to OCLF application and select "undo oneclicklagfix V2+"? then my phone will be slower and plug in to Kies and upgrade the phone without need to unroot it?
If I don't want to upgrade through Kies, I have to flash by myself following some of the instructions from this forum?
Is it better to upgrade to 2.3 or 2.2.1?
Thank you mate

Cheers,
Irawan

hi there,

Don't go for 2.3 as this is a little buggy at the moment. I'm not convinced at flashing your firmware for the moment. I read Samsung will release gingerbread starting 20th march (supposedly) .  but it's up to you; i was toying with the idea of upgrading to JS5 but have decided to wait until the end of the month just in case Samsung start releasing gingerbread 2.3. If you want to then go for 2.2.1 - Im in the Uk and upgraded to JS2 (2.2.1) about a month and a bit ago. JS3 and others are available but Im not sure if those are suitable for your region.

As for OCLF - yes undoing things will work.

Hi,
thank you for your reply. I am actually quite happy after I rooted it and fix the lag and my phone now a lot faster. I also rather wait from the official upgrade from Kies as I am not that confidence to do it by myself.
So once the gingerbread available in Kies, I just undoing the OCLF yah? do I need to uninstall the OCLF appls too?
IronSingh suggested no need to unroot my phone, so I presume once I undo the lagfix and install the upgrade through Kies, my phone will be automatically unroot? is that correct?
I live down under, takes bit longer time to get the update in technology Crying

Thanks
Irawan

if your phone is going fast then just leave it for a couple of weeks. there is not a lot to worry about in terms of flashing your phone. but you must make sure:

1) you disable OCLF - you don't need to worry about un-rooting or completely uninstalling the app - just make sure it's disabled.

2) your phone is not network locked. If it is you must unlock it using 'Galaxy S unlock' which is brilliant. you can check this by opening the dialer and typing *#7465625#

btw, IronSingh may be aware of different news concerning gingerbread release date - I heard it was supposed to be 20th march but I read that last month so that may have changed.

hope this helps:)

right im off to bed - g'night:)

Hi Lisa,
Thank you for your reply and advise. I'm not sure when the gingerbread update through Kies will arrive in Australia.

Sorry for the late response Irawan,

To undo OCLF just open the app and select undo/disable lagfix then uninstall EXT2 tools.

Peace.

Does OCLF work on Froyo (2.2)? On XDA they claim that it's depreciated/unsupported. I didn't want to risk it.

It works on 2.2 but not on 2.2.1
