On my last firmware (orange - prior to all this rooting attempts) I had a 'data' switch. on the top draw. I could just pull it down and click the button when out roaming just like you can with network and gps; this would then active the little red/green data icon at the top next to the battery; I no longer have this switch when I pull down from the top - instead I have a 'silcence' switch. So how do i switch on and off the roaming; do I have to back through setting network (or whatever it is) each time?
The market app: it wont download - it shows all the apps but I cannot download anything.
Problem is... I would like to update to the Jan 2011 firmware you suggested but once again I cannot unlock my sim which is required for flashing - isn't it?
So how can I get the market app to work as I cant download the busybox or the unlock sim app or OCLF so I can change the firmware or at least attempt to flash again to the one you mentioned.
Also, what am I supposed to do with the CSC file - as on my phone it currently says 'unknown'. I'd like to get my phone onto the EURO Jan 2011 version as opposed to the dec version. I followed these instructions on the final attempt at flashing and used the firmware mentioned in it -
http://www.samsunggalaxysforum.com/samsung-galaxy-s-rooting/%28rom%29%282-2-1%29%28official%29-i9000xxjpy-european-flash-whith-odin/But the CSC file shows up as unkown on my phone. In odin I loaded several files as follows:
CODE_xxx .tar.md5 files -> PDA (Odin3).
MODEM_xxx / BASEBAND_xxx .tar.md5 files -> PHONE (Odin3).
CSC_xxx / CUSTOMER_xxx .tar.md5 files -> CSC (Odin3).so CSC file when i punch in the *#code shows as unkown.
Also: Factory reset doesnt work either in this firmware
The one thing that concerns me is that the rooting process never seemed to be completed - it said pass on odin; it hung on the boot screen ( well went past the galaxy s, then black screen and the 'menu' button and the 'back' button were lit and the phone would 'buzz' then 'buzz' three more times - and yet did nothing else. It was only by chance that I tried the factory reset which worked and got me back into the phone.
So I'm not sure that I have a fully flashed phone! I do want to try the FW you suggested in a previous post to me. My phone sim is locked again. It is essential that the sim is unlocked for flashing?
Once again, thank you so much for your help:)
