Hi, when I first got my GTI9000, it was on Android 2.1-update1.
Then I tried to root it, it worked.
A few days later I installed a custom ROM. I was a newbie at that point, so I was worried I would have bricked the phone when the custom rom logo came on, and it took forever for it to load. But finally it loaded, but I wanted the normal ROM again. So I performed a factory reset via settings, and that didn't end so well. It got stuck on the Samsung logo so we had to send it in for repair.. Later that year (it was early 2011) I got it back with Android 2.3.3.

I promised myself to never root it again, but now I want to.
Any detailed guide about rooting this phone?
Oh, and first of all, is it dangerous?
Specs:

Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9000XXJVO
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVH-CL184813
