Hi Guys.  I am computer savvy but a Galaxy S newbie.

My phone recovery mode and download mode both operate correctly and I have backed up all my data.

I have tried rooting my phone with a couple of one click methods (Super1click) but they failed.  I believe though that Darky's ROM is excellent and can be installed without rooting the phone.

I have decided to install Darky's ROM v10 and have downloaded Odin as advised in the webpage entitled "[GUIDE] Final v10.1 - Official DarkyROM - Gingerbread (JVH) - Noob-Friendly" at URL "http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-final-v10-1-official-darkyrom-gingerbread-jvh-noob-friendly.3080/"

Now this is where I get confused by the term "Gingerbread (JVH)".  What is JVH?  Here are the details from my Phone:

Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000
Firmware Version:  2.3.3
Baseband Version:  I9000BUJV3
Kernel Version:  2.6.35.7-I9000BUJV9-CL188519
Build Number:  GINGERBREAD.BUJV9
I am in the UK.
The phone OS was FROYO but updated to GINGERBREAD when update released via KIES.

The instructions I refer to above i.e. GINGERBREAD (JVH) stress to follow the correct instructions and to follow them exactly but is my phone GINGERBREAD (JVH)?

Bearing in mind the obviously deliberate warnings I want to make sure I am using the correct instructions.  Any comments/advice/help would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Additionally I forgot to mention that my SDCARD folder is not on the root but is a subfolder of a folder called /mnt but all instructions I have read imply SDCARD should be the root folder?!  Perhaps that's why those one click root apps didn't work?

JVH

J is for Gingerbread on SGS. First Letter designates the ROM.

V is the Version.

H is the Revision.

It starts off as JV1 then once JV9 is reached it becomes JVA.

Froyo started as JP1 and moved as high as JSV I believe.

There is no mention of root folder in the guide you mention.

Peace.

I'm surprised you had trouble rooting with S1C, its a very easy procedure -

Assuming you used one of the new versions, maybe try one of the older versions.

Try v1.7 - this one worked for me. Also make sure that your Internet Security is OFF ! (KIS,Kaspersky hates it)

I was in the opposite situ to you, good with phones (although new to Android) but more basic with pc.

If you go straight to flash then your phone will be rooted as its included in the ROM.
