My rooting experience.

Device - SGS Gt I9000
Firmware version - 2.3.3
Baseband Version - I9000DDJV4
Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-I9000DDJV9-CL312456 root@SE-S605 #2
Build number - GINGERBREAD.DDJV9
My phone is operator unlocked

1. Via SuperOneClick v1.91
 a. With psneuter - process completed n showed message "You can now turn off usb debugging if process loops". I turned off usb debugging (had to unplug device for that). Rebooted. Nothing happened.
 b. With Gingerbreak - same as psneuter.

2. Via ODIN using fugumod/CF root.
flashed the root-zimage.tar as pdf without pit and repartition. Download suceeded. Phone went into infinite boot loop. Removed battery to switch off boot loop and enter recovery mode. Did the three key combo, no recovery screen came up and instead agin went into infinite boot loop.

This makes me think my device is UNROOTABLE!
PLEASE HELP!!!!!

1. SuperOneClick doesn't work on Gingerbread.
2. Did you turned off your phone before getting to download mode?
(You didn't use the ADB for it, did you?)

I understand that people are still having problems rooting.

So I decided to write a small simple new user friendly tutorial.

For those that don't know what root is Please click here.

Before you Proceed a Disclaimer I can not be held responsive if you brick your device.

As long as you follow the instructions down to the letter you will not have a problem.

If you are on Windows You will first need Kies, if you don't have it first get it.
Link to Kies: Click on Software.

Then go to this link.

Register and Download SuperOneClick. The link is at the bottom of the first Post.

Now Close Kies make sure it's not in the status bar in the bottom right click on the << button to expand the status bar to make sure Kies is not there.

Ok now goto Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Enable USB Debug.

Open SuperOneClick from the Extracted Folder.

Now Plug the Phone into the Computer.

Now Click Root. Wait a few minutes it will provide a confirmation of success.

Now go find SuperUser in your Apps the Icon will be a Pirate Android.

Congrats you are rooted.

Peace.

By following all the instructions down to the last letter..would i be able to remove pre-installed apps which i don't really use??

Yes, if you are on Froyo.
No, if you are on Gingerbread.
I use Root Explorer.

If you are on a Gingerbread ROM, you will have "CF-Root...." instead of SuperOneClick to be able to root your device. On a Gingerbread ROM,too you can use Root Explorer or Titanium Backup to remove the pre-installed apps.

Don't worry unless you are in Download Mode you can just pull the cable out.

What is you build?

Peace.
