*********************************************DEPRECIATED********************************************

As of Gingerbread this guide is depreciated please use the new Guide over here

**********************************************************************************************************

I understand that people are still having problems rooting.

So I decided to write a small simple new user friendly tutorial.

For those that don't know what root is Please click here.

Before you Proceed a Disclaimer I can not be held responsive if you brick your device.

As long as you follow the instructions down to the letter you will not have a problem.

If you are on Windows You will first need Kies, if you don't have it first get it.
Link to Kies: Click on Software.

Then go to this link.

Register and Download SuperOneClick. The link is at the bottom of the first Post.

Now Close Kies make sure it's not in the status bar in the bottom right click on the << button to expand the status bar to make sure Kies is not there.

Ok now goto Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Enable USB Debug.

Open SuperOneClick from the Extracted Folder.

Now Plug the Phone into the Computer.

Now Click Root. Wait a few minutes it will provide a confirmation of success.

Now go find SuperUser in your Apps the Icon will be a Pirate Android.

Congrats you are rooted.

Peace.

Hi IronSingh,

I am from India and have been using the GT-I9000 with the following:

Firmware: 2.2
Baseband: I9000DDJP6
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 rppt@SE-605#!
Build: FROYO.DDJP6

In this thread you have suggested to use SuperOneclick

In another thread on this forum "What is Rooting...." You have suggested to use Z4Root and then OCLF.

Since this is the latest post, I assume I should use superoneclick.

Does this mean that once I root my phone using superoneclick, will the lag problem be solved too, or will I need to  do something else? If so what?

I have read through a lot of your posts on this forum and I must thank you for the tips you have given about Samsung Galaxy in particular and about Android in general.

Thanks!!!

Hi,

hier we speak about two things:
1. SuperOneClick is for rooting your phone.
2. OCLF (OneClickLagFix) is for speed up your phone.
If your phone is laggy, CPU speed is low, you can avoid being laggy phone using OCLF.

Which Version of OCLF do you have installed?

The Latest is 2.3.0 which is depreciated and abandoned but you are running JP6 which OCLF should still support.

Here is the Link to the newest.

Now I do understand.

As I have posted my firmware details above, do you know if there are any upgrades for that?

Another question: A friend of mine also has a galaxys, but he is unable to upgrade it from 2.1 to 2.2 through Kies. What can be done about that?

Thanks

Don't worry it's a false positive. You are essentially hacking your phone, your antivirus is worried what you are doing thats all.

Just Make sure you get it from the Official Listed Source

Hi IronSingh,

I'm new here and i'm new android user too

First of all, I'd like to thank you for your great topics and explanations..

I've read almost all your topics about rooting and i rooted my phone using superoneclick because i think that it is the easiest way to root "for beginners" and installed OCLF.
The device now is much faster in case of messaging and keyboards but unfortunately the phone still slow and there are lags especially in contacts application.
My phone details:
Model:Gt-I9000
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband version:I9000JXJPE
Kernel version:2.6.32.9  root@SE-S606#91
Build number: FROYO.JPJPG

Now, I've some questions
1-Is there any solution for my case?
2-Are there any differences between rooting using Superoneclick and Heimdall regarding the end results?
3-What is ROM?
4-What are the best fast ROMs?
5-Is it necessary to have a rooted phone to enter recovery and download modes because they don't work with me?

Sorry for being too long..

Thanks.

Just curious - have you downloaded quadrant to test your speed and if so - what was the result?

Quote
3-What is ROM?
I guess in the simplest answer a modified firmware.
Quote
4-What are the best fast ROMs?
I think the best rom is darky's - everyone seems to rave about this Rom although I haven't tried it personally. it was suggested by IronSingh too. But I preferred the stock firmware.

5-Is it necessary to have a rooted phone to enter recovery and download modes because they don't work with me?

I know this was addressed to IronSingH who is amazing when it comes down to these things... Just thought i would respond in case you were waiting. I have rooted phone running 2.2.1 with OCLF and it's very, very fast. Download quadrant and just check your speed just to make sure OCLF is working properly.
