Help needed for update

Hello . I'm a noob in using Android .I am from Romania . I have a Samsung galaxy S :
firmware : 2.1-update1
Baseband : I9000XXJPK
2.6.29
root@SE-S603 #2
ECLAIR.XFJM6 .
I want to update to 2.2 or 2.3 but i really don't know how to do this . I don't understand anything with the baseband versions etc . Can someone tell me how to update my android to 2.2 or 2.3 and what are the risks and the most important , can i update and still use it with no problems in Romania ?

Dou you want to upgrade using Kies?
I don't use it at all.

I suggest that you should get the ROM (XXJPU).
Now about risks: yes, there is. But life is a risk, too.
You are walking on the street and will be hit by car, this is risk, too.
