Kingithy I'm from australia on Telstra

Flash these 2. you will never look back

Flash JVH base from here (Gingerbread 2.3.3)
http://www.tinyurl.com/darkyjvh

Then Flash Darky Rom 10.1 from here
http://www.tinyurl.com/darky101

loving it. fast. stable. what more do you want?

Ahhh I had heard about these but there were so many versions and I didn't want to bother the whole place asking more and more questions... Even though I am anyway, hehe.

Thanks for the suggestions. Flashing will wipe all of my data, is this correct? SO I'll have to take down all of my apps and back-up data before flashing?

And with flashing, do I just use the latest version of Odin and do it as I did with my 3BR fix? (Is it all the same for flashing anything?)

Yes, flashing wipes your data. For backup you can use Titanium Backup.
You can use Odin_v1.3 or 1.7.
Flashing is an easy thing, but you have to pay attention what and from you flash.
E.g.: If you upgrade from Froyo to Gingerbread, you have to download the bootloader version instead of a normal one, because Froyo has another bootloader, than Gingerbread.

I have backed up with TB, now just not sure how to find the correct version of Gingerbread (with bootloader as I am on Froyo) to flash, before I flash to Darky's.
Also, what are your thoughts on Darky's?

I used Darky's (From 9.2 till 10.0 Final step by step updated) for 4 months.
The ROMs were very good, but I wanted to get new a ROM, because Darky's ROM is a bit simple regarding flashing, setting for me. Darky's ROMs based on Froyo and Gingerbread (2.3.1-2.3.3) developed by Samsung. I have been on CM7 (2.3.4) for couple of days. This based not on a Samsung ROM. This ROM is said to have a lot of bugs, but the menu is fantastic and the performance, too. If the menu of Darky's is 100%, the menu of CM7 is 180%. Really!!
Being on this ROM I'm not bored.

Ahhhh wow!
Well so far I am liking Darky's ROM... But I have only had it for maybe 5 hours now, haha.
I think I will stick with Darky's for a while and see how I like it. If needed then I will flash to something else.
I will also need to learn a little bit more about the different ROMs out there.

The main drawback I have found with Darky's ROM is the battery drain... In a few hours I lost 30%!
But I have installed Juice Defender Ultimate and I will alter a few settings in it and see how it goes...
I also installed Task Killer so background apps will not be running constantly.

How was your battery life when you used Darky's?

Check in running services: which apps. are running?
You can grab "autostarts" from Market and set which apps. (Maps, Software updater are dangerous) should run after reboot. It's very important. You can avoid huge battery drain.
Or settings:
-untick background data when you don't need it.
-use 2G network.
-untick Data enabled and Auto-sync.
Usage:

I tried several modems like xxjvk, xxjvo, zsjpg. I opted xxjvk.

I have only just had time to set it up today, but I will find out soon.  Wink Wink

Services currently running are Settings, DoubleTwist JuiceDefender, AdvancedTaskKiller, DRM content, Software update, Task Manager, Maps, SNS, Google Services, Email and Swype.

What Task Killer would you suggest? I tried the Memory Management suggested by Juice, but I did not understand it so I uninstalled it.

"(Maps, Software updater are dangerous)" When you say this, do you mean it is dangerous to stop it or do you mean it is dangerous because it drains a lot of battery?

Task killers do more harm than good if constantly running - they just use more power.  By all means run one manually from time to time to to resolve a specific problem, but don't leave one running to auto-kill processes as that will reduce battery life.

Kill: Maps and Software update >>> huge battery drain.
I don't use Task Killer.

Ahhh... Really?
I've only got it set to kill apps when my screen goes off. That would be different to having it kill every hour or something like that, is that right?
Or is it better to just not use one?
Can you tell me what you do to keep your memory fresh?

I've just gotten Autostarts and I'll start fiddling with it.
Can you tell me...
Is it dangerous to stop any specific services from running?
I mean, if I stopped EVERYTHIGN from running on boot up, what issues would arise?
Of so... Could you tell me which services NEED to run (Which should I NOT stop from running??)

In the first round scroll down to Maps, tap on and tap on "After-Startup" and choose "disable", and disable the others, too.
Then scroll down to Software update and disable all.
That's all.

Ahh thanks!
Hmmm... I've disabled a few other things in startup...
Should I undo them?

EDIT: Disabled things like:
Email
Voice Dialer
BLN control
Gmail
Colornote (Unsure if this will stop my widgets from working?)
and I'm wondering if it's safe to stop the two messaging (stock) services from starting, but I think maybe Go SMS might use them?

BLN.

Colornote??-I don't use it.

Isn't BLN just for blinking lights when I get a notification?
I haven't enabled it because it will just use up more battery?

Colornote is just a note app which has a widget on the home screen showing my notes.
I will see if it affects it when I next reboot anyway.  Cool

(Oh and btw, I forgot to ask...)
I tried several modems like xxjvk, xxjvo, zsjpg. I opted xxjvk.

What difference will a different modem make for my phone?

I've configured Juice Defender and it is absolutely AMAZING!!!
Went from using ~35% in 3 hours to 15% in 7 hours!!! <3 <3 <3

Can you tell me what you do to keep your memory fresh?

Why do you need to keep your memory 'fresh' (whatever that means)?

There are various articles about this around the web (sorry, haven't kept any links).  The gist of it is that Android is already managing memory in a very efficient way.  Just because apps are loaded into memory doesn't mean that they're using the CPU (which is what uses power) - they're mostly dormant.  What this means is that, if you want to use one of those apps, Android doesn't need to load it into memory (as it's already loaded) - it just has to be woken up.  This is much more efficient than frequently unloading and reloading apps.  Don't worry - if memory gets low, Android will unload some of those dormant apps to make room.

If you run a task killer, then you get extra power consumption because:
  • The task killer itself uses power
  • The system uses power when unloading the 'killed' apps
  • The system uses power again to load the apps next time you use them

There are also a number of apps that are configured to be restarted if they are killed (e.g. Maps), so using a task killer on those does absolutely nothing except consume power!

The only time it's worth using a task killer is if there's a 'rogue' app that won't go to sleep (i.e. it keeps using power) and it's not an 'auto restart' app.
